Jose Andrëa-Donde el corazon te lleve

When I heard that Jose Andrëa was releasing a solo effort, I jumped at the chance to listen to what it was all about. Being recent addition to their legions of fans, I was wondering if the record would be anything like Mago de Oz. As it turned out, Jose chose some well known “power ballads” to cover on this effort. Okay, so it’s not original material. It’s been done before right? Yes & no. You see, the record is all in Spanish. The selections that he chose for this recording range from classic rock, pop rock to power metal. There is a broad range of material on here, in short there’s something on here for everyone. There are some tracks that work better than others. I think the hardest, thing about listening to a cover song in another language is the translation. Most of the time, the lyrics & title are reworked & are nothing like the original track. Case in point, Aqui Estoy(I am here) is the title given for the Rainbow’s Stone Cold. The highlights of this record are En tu estrella(Always Somewhere), El mar de la tranquilidad(Alone Again),
Preguntale A Dios(Soldier of Fortune) & El Precio(The Price). All tracks are true to their originals, but there is a rearrangement here and there that make it a different. Vocally, there’s some great moments, where Jose nails the high notes & there’s nothing on the record that indicates that this was a half effort. I get the impression that, a great deal of attention was given to the record. Out of the 14 tracks 13 are covers ending with the self titled track, an original written for this collection. This emotional gem ends the record on a very high note. It kept me hungry for more. This record accomplished a couple of things, it will expose a Spanish speaking market to some great power ballads that they have probably never heard before. Just think about this for a minute, Scorpions wrote
Always Somewhere, back the day, a German band. Their first language is German, but
they wrote the lyrics in English, and in this collection you have a version in Spanish. It shows the power of music & how great music has no boundaries. It’s just a matter of putting it out there for people to hear it.
