Just a short little mixtest by me! Bulb!

I didn't know you were on this forum dude, that's cool! Jeff Loomis introduced me to your stuff a while ago and I really dig it...whenever you send him a new clip he's excited to show it to me. The clip sounds really good, the only negative in my opinion is that I can tell it's your POD. It definitely doesn't sound bad or out of place really, but especially if it's going to be your first CD publicly for sale, I think the mix would blow away all your other work if you had a real amp and cab on there!

But, I'll pick up the CD either way :kickass:

I think that the drum sound is improved! Well done! Now there's actually the sound of a drum ;). The bass is a bit too loud, and I'd like some more "meat" on the guitars.

Hey, if you need some help doing that ep (taking a while to finish, huh?), let me know. Just PM me if you're interested.

ah sweet, yeah Jeff is the man, he is way too cool to me haha, im not worthyyy!
you know it would be nice to record with an amp, so hopefully someday i will have the means to do it easily and on my own time, but for the time being im in an apt, and the guitar tone is doing its job, so for the ep i think it will be fine to do it with the pod (hopefully!)

thanks man, you know i have posted this request on a few forums hoping to get some answers, and im even more confused now, because everyone seems to be saying something different haha, oh well i guess thats to be expected, different strokes as they say, i guess i may be stuck with trusting my ears!

As for the ep its been taking a while just cuz of work and life getting in the way as i like to say, so if you can arrange for longer days then you will be my hero haha!
Its getting there though, almost done for reals!!

Bulb your shit is sick:rock: But that pod tone just killz it for me:waah: I'm gonna have to agree with Arron on this and it would just blow people away even more to hear that stuff with a nice tube amp!!

You know what I think. Sounds really good, especially for what this style of music needs, you are definitely achieving it.

Just for future reference. If you recorded through a Pod Xt Pro (not sure if you do) you could record two tracks at once, one which is basically a DI'ed signal, and the other the POD for tracking. Then you would be able to reamp afterwards through an amp, whenever the chance came up. If you don't have the Pod Xt Pro you could use a DI box which has two outputs, then route one straight to an input, and the other through the pod. Just an idea.

yea bulb you should get a dir signal cause im sure someone on this board with a sweet amp would reamp for you.:)

Worth a shot.......

i have the regular bean, but i have thought about it, then again believe it or not i actually do like the way the podxt sounds, so i mean its not something im desperate to fix either

There must be someone in the area me! with a garage me!me! who'd be willing to let you stick your Pitbull in their carpark ooh er! and throw a couple mics on it weekends.

Damn, your songs rock. So punchy and agressive, you and your PODxt reminds me Dimebag and transistors. Anyway, I know that you own a Toneport UX, so you can always track the guitars on two channels, one processed and another unprocessed. Or just track the clean signal and use the Gearbox VST plugin, if you have it.

As the other guys mentioned, the PODs are the biggest drawback to the mix. The constant *squeak* and *squish* sounds on the first riff actually annoy me to no end.. I think it really destroys the tight vibe being aimed for.

The bass seems like a constant underlay rather than staccato/abrupt in nature like the guitar riffs are. There's just something overly loose about it... like it's just some resonant bed of sound, more than a bass element that locks in with the rhythm guitars.

The drums are probably down to personal taste. I think they likely work with the material you're doing there... but I had never really liked the Haake-style small, poppy wooden snare sound. It doesn't command any power, as far as I'm concerned.. but as with most things it's just another aesthetic decision, and to each their own.

For an EP release, what you have right now is probably reasonable enough. Usually the idea with EPs is to give the artists and those they are pushing the material onto a look into how their sound may develop, or where they are at a certain point in time.

Good luck with it.

Agreed. Song is great and the playing always has been there with Misha, but those slides and squeaks are killing me.

Sounds great bulb!

How is the Invader working out for you? Any samples yet?

You should try recording it and use some impulses. If the Invader has the same feature of the Fireball, you should get a small amount of signal in stand by. This way you could technically record with it late night.

ahh but thats just the fact that i didnt record the bass or guitar tightly haha, that can be easily remedied with some good old school practice and proper tracking!
i quite like the djentiness that the podxt has, cant seem to get any other amp to match it on a recording at least (havent heard it done either)
