Just got Slate Drums. Drum test.

i just got slate drums today and i started messing with them tonight.

here is the first test after a few minutes of messing around with it.

Took ozone off my drum bus, added a multicompressor and voxengo elephant limiter. tweaked the master bus (ozone, voxengo elephant) but i cant remember what i did.

I would say scrap that and start from zero. Try doing the same thing without ANY processing to the drums and post it.

im using really crappy headphones at the moment because my family is asleep, so that could be part of it. ill take everything off and re post.

Those toms could work in a crowded mix with L and R guitars, but it sounds weird with only one guitar down the middle. Snare has to go though.

There are L and R guitars, and half of it has a 3rd guitar down the middle.

Im going to start fresh tomrorow and ill be able to actually use my monitors then.

ive been told this before, but honestly i cant tell. I dont know how to check if they are in or out of phase. If i posted just the L and R guitar solo'd could you help me out with this?

I EQ'ed the guitars a lot, and to me it sounds quite a lot clearer.

It's weird, whenever I hear or use slate drums, they are all beefy and punchy and hardhitting, but these sound really weak. Which ones are you using?
And would you mind putting up the midi file so I can try to put in slate drums and see if it sounds the same?

Also, having a bass in there would probably help it all sound better.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Slate drums are meant to be use with just slight processing to fit the rest of the mix, as they technically sound good right out of the box. I barely even ever touch mine, mostly just volume levels... no EQ or anything.

Something sounds very lo-fi about the clip. Even just used raw the Slates should sound larger than that.
