basically, the listed albums (first 5) are the only ones you need to bother with. If Kerry Livgren wasn't involved in the writing process, the song sucked. (Kerry left after the 7th album).
He wrote all songs on Leftoverture, making it the most cohesive and all around great album. Masque has my 3 favorite songs (Icarus, Child of Innocence, The Pinnacle), but It has some goofy Walsh songs too...

So get Leftoverture if you want to know real American Prog.
In the meantime, "Carry on my Wayward Son".

Songs for America is my pick. Just fuckin' good songs. leftoverture would be next. Proto-Kaw-"Before Became After" is pretty good. Not an album I return to often though. Kerry Livgren has written some excellent songs.
