I only have Viva Emptiness and I like it, and Jonas has a great voice as well. I have a couple of other Katatonia songs and they sound alright too, but the thing about Katatonia is that a lot of their songs sounds the same, but the more you listen to them the more they grow on you.
Jonas also seems to use some the the words to much, like "lie" it seems like he uses that word on every song, "didn't know that it was a lie" i mean it's not too redundant, but it reminds me of Sully from Godsmack, he uses Lie all the time too, and I hate Godsmack, but I'd recommend Viva Emptiness, cause I do listen to it!
Jonas also plays Bass in BLOODBATH - they fucking rock hardcore
and one of the Guitar players in Katatonia also plays guitar in Bloodbath, that being Anders "Blakkheim" Nyström
But, if you want to get into them, I'd start with Last Fair Deal Gone Down (most accessible and best album), then get The Great Cold Distance when it comes out, then go for Viva Emptiness, then Tonights Decision, and then in any order from there.
Hehe, I know all about Bloodbath, I absolutely worship Ressurection Through Carnage, and Nightmares Made Flesh is killer aswell! It's just that I dont download music so I kinda needed to know what Katatonia album I oughta buy I dont wanna buy anything that'll make me eat my knee of misery
Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll most probably buy Viva Emptiness, Last Fair Deal Gone Down or Brave Murder Day ( I've fallen in love with the cover )
Viva Emptiness is definitely my favourite, and a great one to start with. Brave Yesterdays is also a worthwhile investment, as it has all the early EPs, as well as a couple tracks from Brave Murder Day and Dance of December Souls.
Deadlift: that's quite an expensive recommendation ...
From what I had heard if Katatonia they were fairly good. I was going to purchase an album with a mixture of songs on it (some including Mikael) but when I went to get it it was gone.
If you know almost nothing about Katatonia I would say go for a collection rather than a regular album...so I would recommend "brave yester days"(not brave murder day, that's a whole different album) and "Black Sessions" 2CD's+DVD compilation.
1. Last Fair Deal Gone Down
2. The Great Cold Distance (yes, I have heard the first 5 tracks off it and it is AMAZING!)
3. Brave Murder Day
4. Dance of December Souls
5. Viva Emptiness
6. Discouraged Ones
7. Tonight's Decision
