Katatonia

Am I the only one who thinks "Dance of December Souls" is their best one? (closely followed by "Brave Murder Day" and "Sounds of Decay")

dance of december is indeed a great album. however brave murder day is extremely lackluster compared to most of the later releases. i think the fact that mikael does the growls on it gives it far too much noteriety than what is reasonable. discouraged ones trumps it on almost every level.

and as for sounds of decay...the saw you drown EP trumps that one too.

last fair + discouraged ones + brave murder day

my fave three katatonia records. the rest are good, but these stand out in their own styles.

yeah i agree with this.

if they had replaced Passing Bird with Sulfur on LFDGD would have made it a perfect album imo.

I'd have agreed with that statement for at least a good full year after purchase, but somehow more recently BMD has grown on me massively, or more specifically - the first 4 tracks. 12 and Endtime are pretty forgettable imho but brave, murder, rainroom and especially Day are solid tracks. I wouldn't say BMD is their best album because it really isnt, but no longer would I go so far as to say it's extremely lacklustre [compared to most...]

Hmm i disagree about LFGDG being a letdown, that album is a masterpiece, Katatonia's best imo. Btw i adore Viva Emptiness, very varied, great use of different guitar effects, some of Jonas most emotional vocal delivery..i like the lyrics a lot too, for me it is sincere storytelling, the use of swearing doesn't make the lyrics juvenile, maybe some parts of the lyrics are a bit funny but i like them...and well, lets not forget Tonight's Decision, that album owns.

Yep, totally agree. But I'll just add that I think LFDGD and TGCD are pretty much equal through my eyes.
