"This is the Ken Hensley story, a story which has been pretty much told by all the old classic rock dinosaurs in interviews for magazines, DVD special features, etc, over the recent years, now Ken has decided to make a concept album out of it. You know how the story goes, I wanna be a rock n roller and if I want to follow my destiny I have to sacrifice everything in order to get to the top while on the way going through blood, sweat and tears...you get where this is going? It's nothing original, but this is fun to listen to, kind of plays like an audio book, with great vocals and music telling the story. The guest vocals are the seller for this CD. Ken Hensley wrote all the songs (music and lyrics) and he sings bits here and there, but if he would have sung everything, I probably wouldn't have had picked this up. But seeing Jorn Lande and Glenn Hughes names as guest singers on this sold me. And to see Jorn sings on many tracks was quite a surprise. Here's a run down on the tracks:
1. (This is) Just the beginning - vocals - Jorn
2. We're on Our Way - vocals - Jorn / Ken Hensley
3. Blood on the Highway - vocals - Jorn
4. You're Got it - vocals - Jorn
5. Doom (scene 1) - instrumental
6. It Won't Last - vocals - John Lawton (of Uriah Heep fame!)
7. Think Twice - vocals - Eve Gallagher
8. Doom (Scene 2) - instrumental
9. There Comes a time - vocals - Ken Hensley
10. Okay - vocals - Jorn
11. What You Gonna Do - vocals - Mr. Glenn Hughes
12. Postscript - vocals - Ken Hensley
13. I Did it All - vocals - Ken Hensley
14. The Last Dance - vocals - Mr. Glenn Hughes again
So Jorn sings 5 songs, Glenn sings 2, and John Lawton sings 1, these tracks are the strongest vocally, but in fairness this CD is a great listen from beginning to end. Every one is at the top of their game, the mood of the CD is light, nothing too slow, but nothing too hard. Ken did a great job putting this together, and a smart job by enlisting some great vocal talent. Fans of the Heep, Jorn, and Glenn Hughes will definitely need to pick this up. "
