Okay dudes. I feel like KD/MF don't get enough love. Andy Laroque is one of my biggest influences in my lead style, and Wead is a fuckin STRAT ASSASSIN.

Post up some of your favorite songs, and if you don't know, now you know.

(Essssscuse the weird DDR vid)

If you don't like King'd vocals I don't want to hear it. That is such a retarded reason for not liking the absolute epicness of the melodies and shred and the RIFF.

Hail to the King, baby! :kickass:

Lately, I've made a ritual out of putting Abigail on every time I'm on a longer drive with my lady. And it works, these melodies and riffs are so infectious, after a few spins they stick on you like AIDS.

Andy LaRocque deserves so much more credit and buttlicking worship than he gets. He's not übertechnical but there are some things to his playing I still can't properly reproduce after all these years. Like his trademark trem action... seriously how does he do that? Or his awesome vibrato...

Listen to the solo in "Arrival" at 02:39 min. if you don't know what I'm referring to:

I'm quite positive even Petrucci picked up things from his playing.

Been a fan since Melissa first came out. Also, my Ipod just fucking loves KD. Put it on shuffle and sure enough.. GrandmaaaaaaaaaH!!

That is a very awesome technique you are referring to in Arrival. I've known it as "fluttering," basically you slap the wammy bar as you are doing legato licks, but I am in no way trying to act like I can do anything close to that  I've always like old school metal, and the older I get the more I just want to hear the classics more and more

LaRocque is a god among men! :notworthy
He is one of the most recognizable players around, his style is very distinctive and his sense of harmonizing melodies is impeccable!

Mercyful Fate is one of the rare bands not having a bad album! Every single one of them is great, with some like Oath and Nine sticking out of the bunch... And Nine was a great way to end a career (I still hope it's temporarily...), what an album!
As for KD, I miss Mikkey Dee's drumming very much, he's a very distinctive drummer whose style fit their music like a glove and his parts on first few releases are stunning...

Both bands are incredibly influential and original, with hours and hours of great material. It's just a matter of King's voice, which is an acquired taste, I don't think anyone would have anything against the music, but for some his voice is unbearable. Those don't get the point of such a voice and perceive it just as thin high pitched wailing whereas it creates a great deal of the bands' haunting atmosphere and has more of an acting role than conventional singing, just look at all the voice changes King goes through during the songs...

To make it short, for both bands :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy
