so I am finally about to buy some monitors.

the main thing I wanna know is what difference are the 8's gonna make compared to the 5's.
Is there really the need to spend the extra dosh on them when they probably wont be reaching loud levels at all.
Am I really going to hear a difference?

:notworthy

edit:should mention these would be g2 and is the possibility of rp6's a good option?

i have a pair of Rokit 6's. they've got quite a bit of bass to them. easily as low as i need to go. great value for the money, imho.

You're going to hear more extended low end range in the 8's, so yeah that's a deal settler for me. How much I regret buying my bx5a's :

thanks for the feedback. do you find when mixing on the 6's that your mix transports well to other systems,stereo's... or do you find yourself having to add that little bit more bass?

anyone else? pros/cons

I have Gen2 RP8's Love them to bits.

But the 6's are even better. If i already didnt have six inch Monitors i would have got them. The Six's have a really really Tight lowend in them.

Trust me take the 6's, You will Love em.

I have the 2nd Gen 5's and they have a nice tight low end. It's not collosal, but it is pretty damn good, Ryan (Catharsis Studios) also has a pair, and you can hear some of the quality tones and mixes he does with them.

a 6 inch woofer is a great compromise with space and low end extension. I would have recomended stuff like the tannoys, yammys and fostex pm series in the same price range, but the rokit 6 gen2's are meant to be great so I would go for them.

With almost any budget 8" monitors you're likely going to benefit from extended low-end, but often at the expense of a less defined upper midrange.

5"/6" drivers paired with a sub is the best approach. Hopefully I'll be able to add a sub to my Rokit 5's at some point (SOOOO broke! And I'm going on tour next month! Argh my poor bank balance!)

Having said all that, the Rokit 5's don't suffer from a lack of low end. But if you do a lot of electronic music you'll feel that lack of a sub.

nope, i haven't needed to add more bass when going to a different system. minor tweaks maybe, but not because the lower end is lacking.
