Basically, I turned off all my equipment as I have been away for Easter break, i just returned and whilst powering up my interface and speakers (Rokit KRK 6's) my right hand side began blasting an insane drone thats around 1kHz. i have unplugged everything and replugged but to no avail.

I have no idea what to do now... ideas?

Is there any kind of stuttering or hard drive/ cpu type digital noises under the drone? Have you changed anything with your system? Cables, power strip, etc? 1 khz is a pretty typical area if you're getting noise from RFE interference. But the fact that it's really loud and only in one channel is odd.

I was having a hell of a time figuring out either a ground or RFE noise issue on my system just last night. Finally I had the idea of plugging my computer into a different circuit than all my audio equipment and that took care of it.

i literally haven't changed a thing.i only disconnected my computer (as i took it with me) and powered down my speakers (KRK Rokit 6's) and my audio interface (DigiDesign 006+) and my extra monitor and hard drives. i havent been game enough to let it stay on long enough as soon as it is quite loud. i am tempted to unplug everything electrical in my room and reorganize all my power outputs. im stressing ha

in fact even with only the power plugged in (ie, no XLR) it still emits the noise/

Yeah I'm leaning towards that as well. If it does it with no xlr connected it's definitely a hardware failure in the speaker electronics.

I have the same rokits and have experienced something like this. From what I can tell, one of the tweeters is vibrating and makes a hum (when i touch it the noise goes away). I sent it to krk to be fixed but they said they couldn't find a problem. I was pretty pissed but on mine the noise is really quite and only happens while listening to certain things so i just deal with it. Can get pretty annoying though, I find it really bad with pod guitars and youtube videos, not sure why.

Mine have always done this just on computer startup. But if my headphones are plugged in they do it as well. I think it's just the interface recognizing the signal from the pc on start up. It's weird, but I just make sure my monitor and headphone volume is turned all of the way down when starting up.

i was informed that apparently that the black glue used on the components had turned conductive from a slight condensation problem which caused the massive feedback loop within the itself and fried the board. long story short, i bought a new one...
