Walked up at 8:30, Anthrax was scheduled to hit the stage at 9:00. Someone informed me that they had sold between 600 and 650 tickets at that point, in a venue that holds 2000. Of course, Twisted Sister and Cheap Trick each played the Silverton recently, that holds about 625, and both those bands only sold out the day before the show. Still, this isn't looking good. 4 US shows so far, and 2 have been poorly attended - at least I've been under the impression that Detroit wasn't sold out either. I'm bummed 'cuz this means Vegas will be skipped for sure when the fall tour rolls around. The fact that it was 18+ probably didn't help. The kiddies might not be lining up to buy Anthrax albums, but they will always be lookin' for something to do on a Saturday night.
Found a prime spot, and suprisingly the house lights went out at 8:45. Then a 20 min. film started, basically a condensed version of Behind The Music with some other things thrown in. Band came out, and it was unreal. Belladona, Bello, and Spitz all really seemed to be enjoying playing the tunes together again. Same for Scott, who was just a monster with the riffs. Charlie sounded great, but seemed to be avoiding making eye contact with Joey, who was constantly on the drum riser trying to get his attention. Then, when he would walk away, Charlie would look irritated. Almost seemed like they had been fighting or something beforehand, and Chuck just couldn't let it go. The set was a couple songs shorter than Australia also, hmmm...
Still these guys were tight. It's a shame they didn't get the slot below Maiden on Ozzfest, that would have been great. Maybe they can still hop on Gigantour (although I'd hate to see 'em below Dream Theatre - I can't stand that band). LA peeps make sure you hit the Key Club tomorrow, who knows how long this is gonna last.
