Sorry if this has already been discussed, but has anyone heard this yet? It hasn't been released stateside, so I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts?

Steve-O got this at Impulse about four months ago and I popped it in to listen, just curious how it might sound. I was never a big Europe fan admittedly but still I am older now and have more of a taste for quality Hard Rock than I used to. Plus I absolutely love John Norum's guitarwork and songwriting on his solo albums (especially "Worlds Apart"-goddamn, that is good!)

Well, I can't really give you an indepth review but I will say that I thought it would be a lot better than what it ended up being. I thought that it had the typical problem that plaigued a lot of mid-90's Rock, and that was the slow, plodding, non-interesting, non-challenging vocal and guitar work that saturated the post-grunge musical output. Nothing really captivated me at all, including anything from Norum AT ALL.

So now I'm just waiting for the next Norum solo effort. Hopefully he'll get back Kelly Keeling on vox. That would rule again!

I would say it is ALOT better than their "famous" stuff. If you are in for some simple, catchy hardrock music , try it. Don't expect some world-changing music by any means, but there are some good catchy songs on the new album ! They went away from the commercial band they became and for that they deserve some good points... If you are into thrash or Black don't toutch this though !

I've never been a huge Europe fan, but I've always liked them enough to own most of their catalogue (Wings of Tomorrow tops my list). I've had Start from the Dark for several months and I've listened to it less than ten times. It's not that it's bad or anything, it's just really laid back. Almost like hard lounge rock! Most of the songs are tempoed like a ballad and John Norum may be back, but he's mostly just a background player on this one.

Like I said, it's not bad by any means if you're a Europe fan. But there's nothing about it that makes me want to pull it out of the stack. If I'm in a laid back mood, I have Blackmore's Night, Magenta, and Ambeon to listen to.
