Why does it feel like when the drums kicks in there's less energy in the song? Because you've probably mastered it loud and proud and haven't lowered the calmer bits to compensate for the gain reduction the master compressor/limiter does on the loudest parts.
Also I'd try to make drums more epic, try a more dramatic reverb on the snare.

What would you suggest for the limiting before the drums, set the limiter to work on the louder section, but then leave the quieter part alone.
