Layne Staley

Drugs tend to grip people beyond their control. If we as a country would be less punitive towards drugs, and more about treatment and support, we'd have more room for real criminals in our jails, a lot more artists and musicians and athletes dead, and a great deal more youth's finishing high school and college after having conquered drugs. Seeing how our president was a flaming cokehead, you'd think he'd be more willing to help.

I think 'good riddance' and 'who gives a fuck'
I don't think we should say that about anyone who dies unless they did something negative to us or to others. I enjoyed his music and wish he were still here to create.

Why? Why does death make you immune to critisism? Why can I hate you the day before you die, but the day after I have to love you?

He was a piece of junkie shit, just like every other piece of junkie shit. And his music sucked.

Good riddance. Who gives a fuck? And dare I say, So fucking what?

It doesn´t really matter, he was a drug addict and it killed him, it´s a shame, because he was always one of my most favourite vocalist and AIC one of my most fave bands of all the time :(

I am sure you live a moral and vice free life, right?:err: Do you hate your one your favorite comedians also, Raga? I hate to break it to you that Mitch Hedberg was also a "junkie piece of shit" too. So I suggest you go burn your Hedberg cds when you get home since your such an upstanding citizen

the whole layne sitch bums me out.........

i loved alice in chains so much.....to dismiss the guy as a junkie is just ignorance, esp from people who claim to be megadeth fans (we are pretty lucky mustaine is still around to be bitching, heroin almost took him too dont forget)

......... laynes lyrics are some of the most open, heart felt songs you will hear......millions of people worldwide empathise with the emotions he was going through.....not just through addiction but life itself. to listen to songs about his fear of what he had become.....of what was to come.......

to turn your back on fame, have the love of your life die of a heroin overdose, and to go the same way a few years later, surrounded by needles, and be so alone that he wasnt found for two weeks, is just about the saddest end ever to someone that gave everyone who loved alice hope

i think layne defo decided to leave, the amount of shit found around him was too much to be an accident........

laynes death was so sad, i couldnt listen to alice for a longtime after.......three years on i still miss the dude, even tho i never knew him, met him or even saw him live....even tho he had pretty much retired.......but thats the power of the man........wish he could have found a way out of it......

so even if you didnt like their music theres no need to disrespect the guy, hes gone and will always be missed by those who love him.........he'll always be the greatest to me anyway. dirt is the best album of all time..........

Lokey makes a lot of sense. If music wasn't such a powerful thing, none of us would be on here reading this, and AIC were a powerful band. Also, Layne souned like no-one else. That's rare.

Who CARES what drug he was on? Alcohol, nicotine and heroin can all kill you, but some people on this site celebrate the first two and condemn the latter. Why?

...and throwing around phrases like "He was a piece of junkie shit, just like every other piece of junkie shit" is just plain ignorant. At what point do you give up on people? When they try something dangerous? When they try something illegal?

Next you'll be telling me that aspirin leads onto speedballs.

Knee-jerk reactions aren't going to help the situation OR get rid of dangerous drugs, so I don't know why anyone does it.
