Leader of Power Metal?

What country offers the best Power Metal and give the top 5 bands/Albums to support your opinion.

Hard to say, because everyone has a different perception of what "Power Metal" is?

Is Nevermore Power Metal? I would consider them Dark Progressive Power Thrash. However, since they'd be the only band in that genre, I'm not sure it's an ideal classification.

Is Symphony X Power Metal? Clearly their older stuff isn't, but "The Odyssey" seemed to be as much Power as Prog.

I'd also want to clarify Pyramaze's and Kamelot's country of origin.

If Nevermore and Symphony X qualify as Power Metal and Pyramaze and Kamelot as American, and you add Dio, Iced Earth and Jag Panzer to the mix, than I'll take the US in a landslide. However, with each of the above bands people choose to pull from the U.S.' column, the less inclined I'd be to say the U.S.

I would call Kamelot a U.S. band although not Pyramaze. I don't know if I would call Symphony X power metal or not. hmmmmmmmmm

At any rate, There are some great "power" (and otherwise) metal bands from the States for sure.

I personally would replace Primal Fear with Iron Savior - Condition Red, and I'd give Rage a "pick one" too, they have too many amazing albums under their belt for me to decide on just one (the past 3 albums from this lineup alone rank among their best ever).

Helloween - Walls of Jericho and the Keeper cds are pure old school bad assery filled original Power Metal.

Finlands Power Metal is keyboard heavy and a bit on the light side.

Germany's Power Metal nowadays is where most of the horrible Helloclones come from.

Sweden kicks ass.

Hellfire Club is amazing.

Germany has definitely the most established acts in the world, such as Blind Guardian, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Rage, Edguy, Primal Fear...

Sweden's got power too... The EX Lost Horizon, Hammerfall.
Finland has Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish, Thunderstone...
Then there's the USA with Kamelot, Jag Panzer, Iced Earth, Cellador, Overlorde, Symphony X ***
Brazil has its bands too : Angra ***, Shaaman, Tribuzy, Holy Sagga, Hibria, Nordheim, Syren...
Italy is also very well served with Vision Divine, Rhapsody and Labyrinth...

I agree Edguy is one of my favorite power metal bands of the moment

I'm glad AngraRULES mentioned Lost Horizon, because for me (and it may be just me) they = power metal.
