Leader of Power Metal?

Well......... as of right now..... America is sporting Leatherwolf. Enough said. Although I often lean toward prog, some of the best bands I have seen at PP were powermetal. I don't think Leatherwolf will be an exception. They will be one of the "dolls" of the event despite being a pre-party act.

Hmm... I don't know man, I'm still having a hard time in getting into the band. Could you cite a couple good albums so I can check out and give a thorough listen? Thanks!

Sorry...... Leatherwolf was some 80's band I never got into. I only like their newest release. The whole release rips though. This new release is what I am basing all of my passion on. It rocks though.

Musically, both are right up my alley. But for me, with Power Metal, it's all about the vocalist. Unfortunately, neither of the singers draws me in. Regardless, thanks for the links.:kickass:

Eh! Who know where your mind goes. You're into extreme vocals, and in Power Metal you love Nevermore, Iced Earth, and Andy B. Franke. But these gruffer than normal power vocalists don't grab your attention.
On the flip side of all that Pyramze is one of the bands you're most looking forward to at PP7.
A case study in "Flight Of Ideas" if I've ever seen one. :loco:

Anyway, give them the 3 listen test, and see if they don't grow on you. If not... so be it.

Prior to this latest release Leatherwolf put out 3 albums:
1- Self titled album that I believe was an indie release. It has been reissued in the last couple of years, but it's not a very impressive debut.

2- A second self titled album released in vinyl on Island records. This is considered their best by many who were into them back then. It's out of print, and very few copies made it to CD format, so the CD's are rare, highly prized, and expensive if you find one.
This should be snatched up by a re-release label like Wounded Bird, but it hasn't been yet.

3- Street Ready was released on CD and can still be found pretty easily. I think it's almost as good as the Island S/T, but without the novelty of rarity. If you're going to get one this is your best bet.

They have sound samples here.

That's true! LOL But in my defense, I created this account a long time ago! And to be honest, the only reason why I picked this nickname is because people from some other boards already knew me as Angrafan.. Back in 01 I was already a little down on Angra.. :P

And I was just joking anyway.. I do enjoy some small portions of chesse.. I really like your beloved Rage, for example :) I have all Helloween CDs and so on..

Would you really consider Rage cheesy? I happen to think they're among the small amount of non-cheesy powermetal.

I don't think there's much room for argument here: Germany

Helloween - The EP up until the end of the Kiske era, phenominal albums. The Keepers are the blueprint for power metal as we know it.
Blind Guardian - Developed at around the same time as Helloween, with a very different style, a truly unique band.
Gamma Ray - Not particularly revolutionary, but have produced extremely consistent albums since the band was created, and have written some really great songs. Perhaps the standard for the genre today.
Edguy - Helloween's heir-apparent, great songs, great attitude.
Masterplan - Jorn's gone now, but the first two albums were great....

Name a few of your favorite power metal vocalist besides Andy from Brainstorm and Symphorce.
I like Andy, but wouldn't consider him a favorite. Some of my favorites include (in no order); Matt Barlow (xIced Earth), Erik Rosvald (xZero Hour), Urban Breed (xTad Morose), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Lance King (Pyramaze) and of course Geoff Tate (Queensryche).

Zod - Are you not a fan of Deris-era Helloween? I guess I'm trying to find the moment you think they became a former shell of themselves.......
No, can't stand Deris. And when I say "shell...", I 'm not referring to a single moment in time or even a single release. It's more about comparing their latest efforts to their glory years.

I'm into extreme music. However, when it comes to extreme music, it's not about the vocals.

Vocalists have always been a strange deal for me. I never know what or who will resonate with me. I'm couldn't even guess what the commonality is between all my favorite vocalists (except talent).

Yep... love Lance's vocals.
