Least favourite extreme vocalists

* Mark "Barney" Greenway (Napalm Death)

no fucking way ... Barney can mix up old school hardcore and growling the best ... + he is amazing live.

my nomination ...
Proscriptor (Absu)
Klaus Meine (nile)

I said "extreme vocalists" not "extreme metal vocalists". Which also means you're free to mention Isis, Neurosis and the like should you wish to. ;)
don't forget mastodon and kylesa

i listen to an appreciable amount of hardcore/crust [tragedy, from ashes rise, kylesa, toxic narcotic, dystopia....] but i totally understand many people's aversion to hardcore-style gang vocals. i, however, dig them, and think they add to the music way more than they detract. to each his own.

wtf? do explain. he's got one of the best growls in death metal.

listen to Vital Remains for a lecture on how to destroy a perfectly good disc.

i always call those "brooklyn chorus" vocals since the beastie boys used them a lot when i was like schfour years old. later biohazard wooed me in a similar fashion.

most hardcore shouts are annoying as fuck, especially in bands that it doens't fit (like that group envy, christ :ill: ). although some of those dudes can be pretty awesome.

hmmm, i don't really understand that, b/c to me it seems like the dude from envy esp. is just fucking pouring his heart out....nobody can deny he fucking lays it all out, straight up. i would say that shit is easily as raw and emotive as varg and quorthon. but like i said, this is a metal forum and i can appreciate people not liking the hxcx vox, whatever, your loss :p

i don't really care about the hardcore shouts, i just think playing chill music like that with some dude ripping his vocal chords out doesn't fit. it's like listening to a good band with a blender roaring away in the background.

also i've only heard like two songs from them so maybe i don't know what the fuck i'm talking about. :loco:

o_O dude i have no idea what you're talking about, maybe you've heard the wrong stuff cuz to me this is some of the most intense, heart-rending performances i've heard in a while.....what envy songs have you heard? again, i can wholly understand the distaste for hxcx vox but to say it's chill? uh are you sure you didn't put paatos on instead accidentally?

upload a sample, i'll let you know if i'm all fucked up or not. i have an mp3 on my work computer, have no idea what song though.

hardcore shouts don't bug me, the problem i have is that so many that i've heard are just shitty vocalists. like the dude from burnt by the sun rules, and i guess many consider jens from meshuggah a hardcore style vocalist and HE. FUCKING. RULES.

that's cool....i posted an envy song a little while back i considered to be pretty hardcore, so if you dl'ed that one that's prolly it...but damn, how fucking intense is that? i'm too drunk/lazy to post another song, tell me what song it is...

i liked him in concert with vital remains, but yeah the constant vocals on dechristianize can get a little annoying sometimes. never cared much for deicide.

Proscriptor kicks so much ass. I used to hate his vocals too, until one day when I suddenly realised I liked them, and even if he was a shitty vocalist, I'd just worship him for his supernatural drumming abilities. :hotjump:

Oi what?

I vote for Chuck Schuldiner.

His performance on "The Sound of Perseverance" (cancer related or not .. :erk: ) is terrible . The album itself is one of the most overrated I've ever heard.
