Leaves's Eyes - Njord

I donloaded it today. After the second song deleted it. I don't like beauty and beast bands, so forget it. If I make it to PPXI I'll be at the bathroom, the vendors, the bar or chatting around during their show. Definitively another band not for me.

Ignoring those who don't like, (or more so) haven't given LE a chance... I like the band, and liked Liv in Theatre Of Tragedy also. Actually Liv and Anneke from The Gathering were sort of pioneers of the female led goth type band with distorted guitars etc. Looking forward to LE at PP, as are some friends.

I rememebr seeing Leaves Eyes open for Kamelot (I think) and I got to chat with Liv for a few - one fo the most down to earth and sweet person you could meet - with a great voice to boot!

That said, for my ears, the male vocals just ruin it for me. If it were just straight 'ol Liv singing, I think they could be one of the tops in the genre. For now, they tend to come across as a poor man's Epica...but, that's what makes the discussion interesting - everyone hears things different and has different tastes...just my 2 cents.

As you said, everyone hears things differently..... Aside from dual vocals, I wouldn't compare Epica and Leaves Eyes. I think musically they come from two different directions. No question the male vocals on Leaves Eyes are sadly lacking compared to the other major players in the genre, but I think the folky music and orchestrations more than make up for it. Thankfully also they don't rely on the male vocals nearly as much as some others......

So far, it's not hitting me like their previous one did. It's very well done. (Although "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" is pushing the envelope - in the wrong direction.)

Overall, it sounds slick. But the knock-out tracks aren't there.

I'm still in my first listen. I like it. But it's not blowing me away.

I'm sure it'll grow on me.
