Okay. I figured that I would hop on the band wagon. Both amazing bands, in a class all their own, and without them both, we wouldn't be listening to the majority of music we enjoy today (for the most part).

I pick Zep by a very, very small margin. I must admit though, my choice could change on a whim. It's that close. So, I'll just conclude this post before I change my mind.

Geez, this one could be the toughest yet. Jimmy Page, John Bonham... blargu! I have to disseminate the pieces:

Page vs Iommi = Page (how could it be otherwise...?)
Osbourne vs Plant = Plant
Bonham vs Ward = Ward
Jones vs Butler = Jones (by a hair)

All by a margin...and even Ozzy & co would vote for Zeppelin...so the Zeps it is. :)

I think.

Black Sabbath.. again
their melodies are greater than Zeppelin's
their RIFFS were definetally more and better and heavier and greater than Zeppelin's
Also they have more classic songs, more classic albums, and their impact and influence is bigger

But Sabbath at their apex is far better than Zep at theirs. Seriously, what Zep record can compete with Master of Reality, Sabotage, the self-titled or Vol 4?

I rest my case.

Well, Zeppelin did know when to quit, apologies to all who like post-Dio Sabbath...
Haha, as far as I'm concerned, Sabbath ended when Ozzy left the band.

Dio

This is subjective, so you're entitled to that opinion.

That is bullshit I'm afraid. Even those who don't like Zeppelin as a matter of taste cannot deny the impact they had.
