Less than ideal Ride cymbal

I really need a new ride but alas I can't afford one now so I'm stuck with what I've got. A 20" Zildjian K Custom Dark Complex ride. It's not junk or anything but the bell just doesn't cut andit's too washy. The cymbal is just not meant for Metal. It's too washy. I've been spot mic'ing it with a 57. I have a shit SDC and a couple of not quite as shit LDC's but the 57 is far better tone wise with this cymbal. The condensors end up far too bright and trashy.

So does anyone have any good ideas mix wise to get that ping/clang sound of the bell to come out more while at the same time taming the roaring washy decay of the cymbal? I've tried a few different compressor treatments really to no avail.

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I wouldn't say it sounds like shit per se. Just less than ideal. But I do totally agree with your sentiment! Just trying to figure out a way to cut down that wash. I tried moongels and half moongels but that deadened the cymbals too much.
