Stores have decided to decorate and sell xmas things starting in September this year, which tells me the end of the year is nigh.

I think I have a top 10 list (in no order):

in vain - the latter rain
necros christos - triune impurity rites
angantyr - haevn <- POSSIBLE ALBUM OF THE YEAR (all hails and thanks to Tranquillian)
raventale - on a crystal swing
symphony x - paradise lost
darkestrah - epos
megadeth - united abominations
insomnium - above the weeping world
slough feg - hardworlder
october falls - streams of the end (EP)

I am certain I've forgotten stuff

still need to listen to the new DsO

king diamond failed it big time this year - awful release. disappointment of the year, considering.

I think the new graveland and alcest were pretty poor too, but I'll give them a few more spins. Neither matched the quality of Le Secret or Fire Chariot IMO.

two of the best songs:

Nasheim's "Leda"
October Falls "Shores of Fire"

Kinda cool when you think about it. Or at least it was before the forum turned turd.

Top 10 +1 (slight order significance)

Candlemass - King Of The Grey Islands
Doomsword - My Name Will Live On
Totem - s/t
Mekong Delta - Lurking Fear
The Hidden Hand - The Resurrection Of Whiskey Foote
Atlantean Kodex - The Pnakotic Demos
Pale Divine - Cemetery Earth
Slough Feg - Hardworlder
Thunderstorm - As We Die Alone
Symphony X - Paradise Lost
Eternal Legacy - The Coming Of The Tempest

3 must have re-releases

Zions Abyss - T.A.L.E.S
Ashbury - From Endless Skies
Acrimony - Tumuli Shroomaroom

WTF :erk:

And, gawdayumit, I still need to hear that fucking Mekong Delta album. Still isnt around over here..not that I have seen.

And once again, No particular order.

Slough Feg - Hardworlder
Reverend Bizarre - II: So Long Suckers!
High On Fire - Death Is This Communion
Pale Divine - Cemetery Earth
Stinking Lizaveta - Scream of The Iconoclast
Josiah - No Time
Solace - The Black Black EP
Voodooshock - Marie's Sister's Garden
Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb
Holy Martyr - Still At War (even though its all the EP stuff, I cannot NOT put this on my top 10)

...still have Orodruin 10", Baroness, Mekong Delta, Wotan, Mos Generator, and a slew of others that I dont know about or forget, to still look forward to. :headbang:

I still don't see how Warning isn't considered a 2007 release. I pre-ordered the Die Hard edition (which was shipped first) and I live in England, so I got a copy basically as soon as possible and that wasn't until middle of January, I don't really care what Rich Walker says.

Why the would Die Hards be sent out first when the reason that they weren't sent out in 2006 was because of manufacturing delays?

OK new addition to this thread:

I see that you liked my reco's of Angantyr and Darkestrah then. I was waiting for you to get back to me about those.

I haven't had too much time to keep up with 2007 releases but from the little I've heard:

Alcest
Antimatter
Jesu
Azrael
Vital Remains
Nile

And of couse there are a ton more I haven't gotten to, are coming soon, or need to spend more time with.

Best Album from 2006 which you didn't get around to hearing until 2007:

William Elliott Whitmore - Song of the Blackbird

A few more may make their way on to the list at some point. But at this point, the only 2007 releases you "must own" are:

Circus Maximus - Isolate
Redemption - The Origins of Ruin
Riverside - Rapid Eye Movement

Hmmm... I guess it was a good year for Prog. Especially when you consider that the disc closest to making this list, but falling short, is the new Symphony X.
