let's start wrapping up 2007 - present your absolute must-buys

^ Truth

Mael Mordha - Gaeltacht Mael Mordha
Alcest - Souvenirs...
Hellveto - 966
Kroda - Fimbulvinter
Manegarm - Vargstenen
Doomsword - My Name Will Live On
Slough Feg- Hardworlder
Shroud of Bereavement - Alone Beside Her

and have yet to see for the new Arkona, Primordial, and Drudkh releases.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - In Glorious Times
Devin Townsend - Ziltoid the Omniscient
In Vain - The Latter Rain
Upsilon Acrux - Galapagos Momentum
Shining - Grindstone (not the black metal band)

Those are the only must buys, IMO. There are many more that I will buy and that are good, but only those blow me away.

I've heard some rad stuff this year, but this is the only one that defies beyond believable. It defies beyond believable. I don't expect anyone here to get that reference. Maybe npearce. Maybe.

angantyr - haevn <- POSSIBLE ALBUM OF THE YEAR

so far going into track 3 ... i am scratching my head ... I heard this type of stuff a gazzilion times already. and if i heard it a gazillion times, you guys with your vast libraries must have heard a katrillion times ... so that confuses me even more why this is AOTY material

the best thing about it so far was the acoustic passage opening track 1 ... then it just went into mediocrity (well executed mediocrity)

then say it bitch ... don't let me fight this alone :loco:

oh yeah ... that Baroness disc ... fucking :kickass:

track 3 and the vocalist would not shut up ... they're like the Vital Remains of BM ...

Nile :kickass:
Mael Mordha :kickass:
Manegarm - Vargstenen (not as good as vredins tid)
Menhir - Hildebrandslied :kickass:
Behemoth - The Apostacy (the druming is good, but thats about it. decent release though)
Ensiferum - Victory Songs (havent had it for very long, its alright)
Kroda - Fimbulwinter :kickass:
Morrigan - The Damned :kickass:
Turisas - The Varangian Way (need more listens)
Vital Remains - Icons of Evil :kickass:

awaiting Hellveto, King Diamond

still need Graveland, Immolation and a couple others
cant wait for Drautran, Absu (2007?)

Track 4. Tagefolket is absolutely fantastic. Try again sire. :)

Right, I wasn't saying Angantyr was this year's "Om" or "Kenose", but as far as pagan black metal goes, it is truly outstanding. Mid-paced, viking melodies throughout.

The whole "heard this before" concept should just be thrown out the window whenever you listen to anything. Otherwise, just dismiss 95% of everything that's been released since '93.

So in that regard, Angantyr rule supreme. Listen to tracks 2, 5, and 6. They make you wanna scream to valhalla!! :kickass:
