have you ever been in a situation where you might have been killed or mutilated? the worst thing i ever lived through was in a large public bath with artificial waves (how is it called in english?). i was nine or ten, and swam to where the water was deepest. then the waves were turned on, and at this point they were so strong that i thought i would drown. i swallowed quite a lot of water and had to swim all the way back to the "shore", quite exausted after that. but that's it. nothing really dangerous.
what about you?

Many years ago - we were visiting relatives in Florida. I was swimming in the ocean - and the riptide got me and I was being dragged "out to sea" Approximately 200 yards off-shore, I passed over a sandbar and was able to stand at that point (although high chest deep). The tide was low (thank goodness). Anyways - the lifeguard on the beach had a megaphone, and he was told by my parents that I could swim. He basically instructed me to do a "shallow" breath stroke - making sure I skimmed the water to stay above the riptide. Well, I made it back - but for a bit, I honestly felt lost.

In hindsight - a boat probably would have picked me up, but at that time, it never crossed my mind. I can only say thank goodness I could swim.

Nahh not with my, but my brother; during desert storm he was involved in an ambush of a technical. The neat thing is he took one of the Ak-47's and discharged the chambered round and kept it to keep that fire fight in his memory.

VultureCulture, I believe it is called a wave pool in English. At least, that's what I have always called it.

I don't suppose my life has ever been directly in danger. I have ridden around with some of my friends when they were really drunk and not aware of the idiotic things they were doing. One of my friends was involved in a wreck. We were chasing after him because we didn't want him to be out driving around. He wrecked in a curve and reached speeds well over 100mph. So, I guess I could have easily been involved in a car wreck and died. It's a good thing I stopped putting myself in those situations.
