Line 6 "joins" Yamaha

Yamaha has a weird reputation because it seems to make everything, but in my experience, all their musical instruments and related equipment have been fantastic. My first guitar was a Yamaha classical acoustic, and my folk acoustic right now is a Yamaha. Their studio monitors seem great as well. I'm skeptical regarding how much short-term influence they'll have over Line 6 research and development and/or management, but I think they might provide some useful strategic direction that can help the company find a niche in the market in a more effective way than it's doing now.

As it stands, Line 6 products are generally cheap alternatives to the Kemper/Axe FX, but I've yet to meet a Line 6 user (myself included, lolz) who has been completely satisfied with their products. Part of that is a conscious decision to appeal to consumers without the money to buy an Axe or Kemper, but part of it is also silly, stupid programming like not including a 5150 sim, not permitting third-party impulse responses in the software, and using percentages instead of hz labels for the equalizers in the HD series. Hopefully Yamaha will kick them in the ass and get them to think critically about who they're marketing to and why.

Whatever you say about Line 6 they were pioneers of digital amp tone at one point in the early 2000's, the Pod 2.0 and XT kidney beans were in the leaps ahead of the competition at that point, their problem is they haven't brought out a fresh or innovative product in forever and you can't continue to run a company off the back of marketing former glories like that.

Line 6 should have really been developing what Kemper beat everybody to the punch on - I just think as a massive corporate entity you don't get as much space to run with product ideas like that so they've now missed the boat; if they had got in early though I have no doubt they'd cost half the price and have sold a shit tonne - instead they just developed the Pod HD series which barely anybody has picked up.

With Yamaha behind their backs I'm sure they will get enough budget for R&D to catch up with the competitors. At least I hope they do, as I'm a Line6 fanboy :D
Honestly I can't think of another brand that has allowed me to get instant working tones as Line6 while keeping the price low enough.

Seems like the right place to ask.. How do Yamaha's electric guitars fair? I've never played one, and the ones I spotted many years ago were hideous-looking, tbh..

Curious to know about the quality of those instruments (never have seen them mentioned anywhere )

Their instruments past their beginner lines are well regarded as far as I know. My one acoustic that I bought like 10 years ago is a Yamaha and I bought it because the action and neck feel like an electric to me, which is what I started on.

Well, if you take the Yamaha Pacifica, I can tell you that it's nowhere near what it used to be. I'd love to get one of those old tho..
