Hey guys,

There's a possibility I might be putting down my axe in favour for vocals in my band, as we really cannot find anyone to fill the slot and we're desperate to gig right now. I'm fairly new to vocals, and was wondering if you guys use any processing on vocals, whether it be during the recording process of live. Obviously, I'm more after what you'd use for live vocals, but if there is any equipment which is a must like reverbs, delays etc, that would make me sound better/more like I know what the fuck I'm doing, I'd really appreciate it! My vocals seem to be going in the vein of Bjorn Strid, so screaming and clean vocals really, which some more Killswitch-esque screams.

Thanks

Good mic, and a compressor. You shouldn't need any verb or delay unless you are going for a specific sound. The venue will give off it's own verb. For the mic, something like the Shure Beta58 should be more than good enough.

For the compressor, I'd go with the DBX 286A - it's got compressor, de-esser, gate, and enhancer. I'd probably still run to an EQ after (parametric if possible) and roll off any lows just as you'd mix it in a DAW.
