loading reference in my Host application

whenever i load a mp3 file into protools for my reference it gets distorted when i play it through protools like its to much or clipping?

Do you have any processing on the master fader channel?
Is the fader of the stereo channel where you have the reference above 0db?
Is it converted from a low quality mp3?
