long-running bands whose newest albums are underrated

Wow I hate World Painted Blood, I think it's a massive disappointment especially the production. Priest's Nostradamus is quite good but the production is pure rubbish IMO. If that had a decent sound it would be a much better album plus they could have made a single near 80 minute cd and left out the fillers.

I would go with King Diamond. I like Give me your soul..please a lot but a lot of people don't like it. The only thing that let's it down again, is the production which whilst ok is a bit flat like most recent KD disks. It's also not as good as Puppet Master which is my fave modern day KD disk. I think Helloween's Gambling with the Devil was very underrated. I think it might be my fave Helloween album of all time above The Dark Ride which was my previous fave from them.

Zeno - Runway to the Gods. Period. Easily the most underrated band I've ever heard! Hardly anybody knows that Uli Jon Roth has a younger brother who is even better than he is! Or Fair Warning's Aura. Heldge Engelke is a freaking BEAST!

Thank you!
I will never stop defending this release.

Yep. It still is one of my favorite discs in the last number of years, and I am very disappointed they never did that thing in its entirety like they hinted at. :(

The new Tygers of Pan Tang and Praying Mantis disc are really good. These bands both have been around for over 3 decades. The new Tygers is more rock influenced but still has that vibe of the early stuff. While most bands just go through the motions they pull out all the stops on it.

Praying Mantis have updated there sound with a more hard rock with a touch of melodic power metal. Kind of reminds me of newer Firewind.

It is nice to see some of the bands that have been around really getting back out there with new stuff and not just relying on the old material.

Always wanted to get into these two bands. They sound good from what I've heard, but I think I had trouble finding their discs at decent prices. Where is a good place to start and possibly a good place to find them?

Don't know why I forgot about that one. I actually find it to be in his top 5, if not top 3 (excluding the MF stuff of course). It is a very SOLID album from start to finish and one of the most kickass album openers ever.

Good call.
Definitely a top 3 Fav Deris-era album for me fo sho!

It is very good, but I don't know about that. I think I would put it on the cusp trailing behind "Dark Ride", "Time of the Oath" and "Master of the Rings." Actually, come to think of it, it's probably neck and neck with "Master of the Rings." I do like most Deris albums though, outside of "Rabbit Don't Come Easy" and "Better Than Raw."

I dont know if you would consider them a long running band, but I think Iced Earths latest album is alot better than people give it credit for.

You can find them on Ebay at decent prices once in a while. I got mine from Amazon UK, Sonic Age Records has a great mailorder at good prices though it is from Europe so shipping is a little higher than normal but well worth it. I have seen some others who have thier stuff but I have had issues with thier service. Good luck on most of the Praying Mantis stuff.....most are crazy high prices. Thier first and newest are the 2 worth getting.

WPB is a kick ass album and there is NOTHING wrong with the production!! you must have heard a bad d/led version because my actual cd sounds fantastic:worship::worship:

Boy am I gonna get flamed for this statement...

Angra-Aurora Consurgens

I really liked this one. I wasn't particularly fond of the other 2 with Edu, but this one seemed different, experimental. I like it, what can I say?

Go Go Gadget flamethrower....

No, you're right on with that one. It's a good album, but is so different from TOS that people freaked out. It was the same with Fireworks.

Yeah, I've heard people complain about the production of this disc, and I can't hear what the problem is. I enjoy the album. Not my favorite of theirs by any stretch, but I do enjoy it.

Black Crowes Before the Frost...An under-rated classic. Luther Dickenson is all over this disc and he nails it!
Blind Melon-For My Friends ...Shannon Hoons replacement was good, too bad he left so quickly after this
Danzig- Deth Red Sabaoth- More akin to his 1st 3 discs than anything recent...a solid comeback, but he needs John Christ back

Probably Rage, though the new one is patchy...but Peavy has been making albums since, when, 84?

Tons of strong stuff on 'Speak of the Dead' and just about everything that came before it since after they got off Noise too, at which point the band was already 10 years old...

Anathema - We're here Because We're Here.

they've been around for about 20 years and this albums is EASILY their best... Love it.

How can it be an underrated album if it JUST came out. I still can't find myself a non imported version. >.<

I'll go with the latest Dream Theater album. Its one of my favorites from that band.

Riot - ARMY OF ONE

Oh my god YES. I think all of the Dimeo-Riot is underrated, but Army of One is definitely among my favorites of them all. I think that disc screams marriage of the Dimeo era with the original Riot sound. I know a lot of "old school" Riot fans who won't give anything new (90s and onward) a chance, but they're missing out with that one. Top 5 release of 2006 for me.

I think Helloween's Gambling with the Devil was very underrated. I think it might be my fave Helloween album of all time above The Dark Ride which was my previous fave from them.

No doubt. I admit I've never been a huge fan of Deris-Helloween, and The Dark Ride remains my favorite of that era, but the new one is definitely a close second. Really strong album.

Fair nomination. I think it's probably their best album this decade, though I MIGHT prefer Octavarium. The second disc of Six Degrees is drool-worthy, but the first doesn't do it for me. And let's not get started on Train of Thought and Systematic Chaos. Bleh. But yeah, really enjoy the latest one - some of the best stuff they've done in years... albeit still flawed IMO.
