Anyhow..I've just acquired a new Sansamp Bass Driver DI.
But this was just for studio use.

After getting a tax return, the idea popped into my head of maybe getting a cheap ass, but reasonably ok sounding bass guitar.
Since I have 0.0 knowledge of bass guitars..
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks.

For studio work a Jazz bass variant will cover damn near every bass base. Get a Squire and swap out the stock pickups. Or even just a cheap copy and do the same.

We're thinking of getting a OLP Musicman as a studio hire bass as we've had a 5-string version here for a while and it's very good indeed, but a little hefty for people used to a 4.

Im a bassist for 27 years and I've played them all, I have played/owned nothing but Ibanez for the last 20 years. if you are looking for a nice bass for cheap look at the low end Ibanez, they sound nice and cheap

I recommend to get a 5-string bass. ESP-LTD or Ibanez.

I have an Ibanez EDB bass (4 string). Sounds nice but I wish I had a 5 string one.
(It's a pain in the ass if you want to tune down lower like "B" or something. -Most 4-string bass bridges can't handle thicker strings).

I´m not even as old as you have been playing bass, but I was gonna recommend the same thing. Specially on the cheap side, Ibanez is the best way to go IMO, the cheap ones sound and feel pretty damn good for their price

A target sound and a price range would be useful. Honestly though I would go play some instruments and see what you like. Ibanez is going to have the "easiest" necks and fender is going to be the most predictable sound. If you can find a used lakland it's hard to argue with the sound.

Seems like I'll need to go of an test some basses soon then. I've allready got my mind set on a jazz bass. But since Ibanez is recommend a lot I'll probally test something from those within my budget range..

Thanks guys!

yeah definitely do some testing and get what's most comfortable for you and sounds decent enough for your purpose. for Ibanez check out the Gsr series, very decent sound for a low priced bass. or a low end SR if you can shell out a bit more
