Loomis, Portnoy, Downing, Khan....

I'm just curious, you have said this numerous times I'm just curious as to why this upsets you so much?

Because Van is an extremely underrated drummer who's groove and way of playing can never be replicated. Whereas he could be technical if he wanted to be (he definitely has the chops), my opinion is that he always played with amazing feel. I don't think Warrel and Jim will be able to find someone to match him on that kit, but hopefully they can find someone to fill the void in their own different way.

I know Van is a muthafucka of a drummer.

But I'm thinking of getting members from as many different bands. It would be almost easy to convince Jeff AND Van to come together into a project idea.

Don't worry, Van needs to stay available for MY side project! Heavy Metal Polkaaaaaa!

I keed I keed!

Was Nevermore even relevant anymore? Their past two discs have been shit, they fucked Glenn over, they fucked the consumer over by releasing the same album twice ( the re-mix was better though). Loomis is happy being a wanker ala Yngwie, Sanctuary is the focus, fuck yeah Warrel!!! Finally got something right.

I thought TGE was pretty damn good, actually. I will agree that the latest one is crap, but I think we're finally learning why.

The story behind EoR and the re-release is well known, if petty, and CM and the band at least stepped up and sold raw discs of the remix pretty cheap for people who already had a full package.

Yes I would think opening for Megadeth, getting on the charts twice etc makes you relevant. No offense to anyone, but the rampant fanoboyism on this board for the festival is really getting aggravating. I think ProgPower is an amazing force of a festival, but hating a band because they canceled a scheduled performance is utterly ridiculous. You act like they robbed Glenn at gunpoint or something. They just took a tour with Disturbed. That happens all the time with festivals everywhere. It's not "fucking" one over. It's deciding that playing to 1-2,000 a night for a month means more exposure and more money than playing to 1,000 people one night. Just like Kamelot has to get out and feed their kids as Glenn pointed out by doing their tour, so does Nevermore (well, feed themselves since they don't have kids).

I agree that his solo album was a wanky load of garbage, and felt like the last Nevermore CD sucked, but I don't take it out on them because they canceled ProgPower.

I always thought this. He never got any credit by most fans which I always thought was weird. He's a monster at extreme drumming -- not like Hellhammer or Nick Barker types that just shuffle double kick patterns all the time or Tim Yueng who just blasts with no sense of groove. There are very few drummers with as much sensibility as Van. He will indeed be far more difficult to replace than Jeff.

ahh shit, that blows man. I didn't know, but I still don't think they deserve to be hated on for it as a band. I can understand the Arcturus hate tough because what they did was straight up dickish.

I actually didn't hold a grudge against them (ok..I did call them Neveragain..) even though it sucked the second time. I sure as hell couldn't blame them for taking the Disturbed tour.

I was indeed pissed not only about how Arcturus canceled, but the total lack of respect and professionalism they showed even prior to that. However, promoting the Inferno appearance less than two weeks later has taken my hatred to a level I never thought possible.

How were they unprofessional behind the scenes? Can you talk about it, now that "the promoter hat is off"?

There's nothing on TOC that really comes close to TGE, and I thought that the consensus was that the EoR re-release was necessary - the first version is nearly unlistenable. :yuk:

Example #1:

I tried to get visa information from them for months via my booking contact who is actually in Norway. Nothing. I finally got Simen's private email address and emailed him personally with a plea for information. No reply. I was totally in the dark.

Example 2:
They never bothered to contact me personally about the cancellation as well. I found out from my contact upon returning from vacation. He honestly didn't know the specific reason they canceled. I told him they had 48 hrs to get a press release ready to explain to the public what happened and you see the kind of bullshit they sent me. I mean hibernation sickness did suck for Han...but come on.

TGE is my favorite album by them and (while TOC wasn't a very good album IMO) when I saw them in SF last time around supporting TOC, the place was packed (just as packed as it was for Kamelot last time they came around, for example). If Nevermore isn't relevant, then the bar must be pretty high.
