I guess some of you know about this little program but I couldn't find a topic about it and I think it might be quite useful for those who haven't tried it. A friend of mine told me about it when I was going to send him some rar-ed .wav files and I gave it a go. I love it for being straight to the point, free, small and fast. I even compressed some of the wav files I rarely use but don't want to delete. So check it out :) http://www.monkeysaudio.com/

Monkey's Audio is proprietary, so yes Linux will have issues with it. It also can lock up. FLAC, on the other hand, is open source, has software where every new feature fixed within days of a bug being found, and isn't held by a significant enough size disadvantage to justify using the buggy and proprietary MA codecs (not just Linux, they're a pain in the ass to burn directly in all the programs I've used, unlike FLAC and Shorten).

I believe native FLAC playback is included in the up-comming Leopard update of OSX.
Really? I find that somewhat suprising. I'd think they'd not support FLAC natively since there's an Apple Lossless format already.

Apparently iPods support FLAC, so it's not that surprising that they're adding it to their operating system - I'd imagine they probably make more off iPods than workstations now, so by making OSX support it too they're hoping to get more interest from the average person that wouldn't normally look twice at the ugly cheap-looking plastic boxes of filth.
