M-audio 2496 multitrack help.

Ok i have the card mentioned above. I want to connect as many inputs as possible so i can record drums. But i want each drum on its own track in cubase. If i connect a 8 channel mixer will it when transfered to the computer, input them into there seperate tracks?

Sorry but im new to all this, and not really understanding it.

What do i need so i can record 8 tracks at a time?
Also i know i can connect up to 4 sound cards. But i am after a cheapish mixer to connect to the soundcard that will record 8 seperate tracks.

you aren't going to be able to record 8 separate tracks at once with that card. Only thing you can really do is use the 8 channel mixer you have, and send the main stereo bus from that to the card. But then you won't be able to edit each individual mic. So, if I were you, I'd save up and get a firepod, or something similar, which will give you 8 decent preamps and a way to edit everything.

Ok. I would prefer a mixer type setup. So what is out there that isnt to expensive? Alesis multimix 16 isnt to bad a price.

Would a mixer really benefit you that much? I too would second something along the lines of a Firepod, and stick to doing things "in the box".

Me personally would go with a mixer type but like said above save and get something that you can expand later for more tracks like a delta 1010 for up to 16 tracks.

I too would invest in something like said above making sure that is something that's expandable
