This stupid "MacBook Air" experiment is a massive step in the wrong direction for Apple. What a fucking useless overpriced machine. It's like they made it strictly for looks alone, to appear in the new Kanye West video or something. My MacBook KILLS it for half the pricetag, and it's only 1/4 of an inch thicker! How fucking thin do laptops need to be? I wouldn't care if my laptop was 2" thick if it did the job better. I'm very disappointed in MacWorld today, the worst Keynote ever.
Apple needs to focus on the TRUE missing piece in the lineup - a budget tower system. I'm sick of paying a premium for upgradeability, and I'm holding on to my desktop G5 in the studio, in the face of increasing obsolescence, because the Mac Pros cost too fucking much. If I could build a PC and run OS X on it with 100% assurance of compatibility, I would. I'm starting to really get angry with Apple lately. OS X Leopard was a pointless update as well, adding more subtle visual bling to the OS and some better n00b-proofing but offering little or nothing new for the core pro market like us here.
I'm glad that Apple is successful now, but the more mainstream they become, the more distanced I feel from them, and the more I long for the days of the Amiga. Steve Jobs is a genius, but he's letting success guide his decisions too much.

Why? Because Apple is trying to position themselves as the elite brand, the cool brand the status brand. It's about style. Forget that there are better products than, say the iPhone and many of the iPod's, they are cool and if you own one you are cool.

This computer is designed for light users, sales reps and home use. Theres not much point buying it as a sole home computer. Unless you buy the external cd drive

at first glance its cool but then you think about it and it is really stupid. the fact that there is no cd drive and no hardline cable internet kinda sucks.
i have a mac book pro and an ipod nano and they are truly great products but you have to be careful because they sometimes have products that are all flash and status. every fucking cool kid on laguna beach or whatever else pop culture shit is seen with the silver mac book with the white glowing apple on the back in a coffee shop.
