hey guys,i have the following problem basically:
i want to record vocals for my band and i cannot do it in my home because they are really loud, and of course there's no sound proof in the room.
i was thinking to do that in a rehearshal place were there will be no strangers evolved and it will be much cheaper and better performing results(there are MANY vocal parts,so i prefer to sing for 2/3 hours and complete 1/2 songs per day)
the problem is that the only way to do that is to take my macbook in the rehearshal place, but my audio interface has firewire and macbooks don't have firewire so im wondering:
1)is it possible to put a firewire connection in the macbook( i read everywhere that you cannot do it,but you never know)
2)if a buy a firewire to USB connector, will i have problems in the final result?
3)will the slow RAM of the macbook have a huge effect in the sound quality?
Guitars will be recorded with a great Imac and will be reamped in a good studio, and the drums will be studio recorded too.
i'm aiming for a great production so i really care for the sound quality.
thanks

I assume this is a newer generation Macbook that is white unibody or an aluminum unibody? You cannot add FireWire to it. A FireWire to USB connector would not work either. The RAM in the MacBook isn't that slow. RAM should not have an affect on the sound. If you are able, just rent a USB interface for the day.

If you care about the sound quality and are using a good studio for everything else then why aren't you using this studio for vocals? Vocals are the most important part of a mix, and no doubt the studio will have decent mics, preamps and outboard comps & eq's. Which will give a much better result than using a cheap firewire/usb interface in a rehearsal room.

Getting setup for recording vocals is normally a pretty quick process, I'm sure the studio would be happy to get you in for a few hours every night until the vocals are done.

hello man thanks for the reply, yeah i understand that what you say sounds logical.
but i really want o be alone for the vocals,i always deliver better performance, more expression more feeling so it's hard to do that with a random producer if you know what i mean.
cheers

Why don't you just do it at the studio and ask everyone to leave the room? Or better yet.... wear a blindfold!
