Anthrax has played AtL in its entirety as well.
As for Maiden doing it, I wouldn't really have any complaints about that, but I'd prefer to know ahead of time. Honestly, what I hate most about hearing bands perform albums is that you lose out on the curiosity and anticipation about what the next song(s) in the setlist will bring. That predictability is offset some when it's for a classic album that you have a long relationship with, but not as powerful for a new album. Playing a whole new album is pretty much unheard of, but I don't believe they'd be doing it if playing albums wasn't somewhat in vogue.
A few years ago a buddy of mine went to see Sonic Youth a couple days before they released a new album. They played NOTHING but songs off the new album, which nearly no one in the audience had heard (this was pre-broad band days). THAT is a cock move.

I think Neil Young played his entire new album, or a good deal of his new album, to a live audience before it was released as well. That really is a pretty ballsy move, because you have virtually NO feedback whatsoever and have NO idea what the response may be.
Can a band even gage this? If Maiden is playing in front of 10,000 crazed fans each nights, with the music cranked to 100,000 decibels, and a billion lights are shining in their eyes, can they discern the difference in energy level? And if they can, I would guess they expect new songs not to met with the same fervor as old songs.Demonspell said:

Maiden playing 7th Son in its entirety makes a lot of sense:
a) new fans like it
b) old fans like it
c) it's the closest to a 'concept' album they've got
d) it's 10/10 classic
e) the giant ice statues in the stage show rule
f) your mum
g) we'll get to see them play "The Prophecy" live

Oh man, that's hilarious. Seriously, there is no question that the band has a right to play what they want to play. They have more than earned that right. We have a right to be disappointed by it or not, but to show up the band like that is disrespectful and I absolutely side with Bruce on it. Fuck that guy.
One thing you can absolutely say is that you want to hear the band play songs that they've never played live before? Well here you go, they start the show with 10 of them. Not to mention the fact that any real fan knows that they fully emphasized the first 4 albums on the last tour and will fully emphasize the next 4 albums on the next tour, complete with a grand reproduction of the Powerslave stage setup.
Also, the band is obviously very excited by the new album and I think they have a right to be. Playing the whole album live is a new concept for them and it's obvious they are proud if it. The more I hear it, the more I am in complete agreement with those that think the album is their best since 7th Son BTW. It absolutely rules and is the first album since 7th Son that I can listen to from beginning to end without feeling the desire to skip certain tracks. "These Colours Don't Run", "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns" and "The Legacy" are instant classics in my view. Need more time with "For the Greater Good of God", but I see that one heading there as well.

I think I'll agree with that as well, actually! Although I wish they wouldn't play it in exact order, and with no classics in between...
