Malicious Intent are certainly malicious, I dare say intentionally, and as such have chosen their name well. It is also the case that little needs salvaging here, as the Welsh band’s death and thrash influenced hardcore is impressive, especially considering the band’s young age (the baby of the group is only fourteen!). Melodic, sometimes brutal guitar work has occasional really, really thrashy riffs, above which a guttural growl fronts the sound. Drums and bass form a cohesive and tight rhythm section, and cope with the numerous time and dynamic changes with ease. This makes for an unforgiving concoction; varied and well written songs, which use occasional clean guitars and more relaxed passages to juxtapose the heavier sections. . Nothing To Salvage provides a series of absorbing songs that display impressive maturity for a demo. The production is of a decent standard considering recording cost the band £41 each.

While living in Wales can make you really pissed off, Malicious Intent have clearly put this anger to good purpose. Nothing To Salvage is a harsh and impressive demo, well worth checking out for metalcore and death fans.
