CNN reported Johnny Cash passed away this morning............................Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

You will be missed Johnny.......

It's a tragic day. American culture just lost a monument. Johnny was the real thing, he was bad ass all the way to to the end. Last 4 records are incredible. I am very sad.

I saw him in an interview a few months ago, and he didn't look too good then, and that was before his wife died. With all the health problems he's had the last few years, its amazing he fought it out this long. He's a tough "sumbitch" It's sad to see him go.

We all knew it was going to happen soon but it still just doesn't seem possible. I grew up on Johnny Cash this is indeed a sad day for me. He was without a shadow of a doubt the greatest. R.I.P Man in Black

I also just heard John Ritter died. I never saw that one comming. I allways thought he was entertaining though. I wonder who's going to be next? They allways say (and it's usually true somehow) that deaths happen in 3's.

The first album I ever bought was Johnny Cash at San Quentin. That was when I started get into music, it was all I listened to...until I discovered Kiss. He was also the first concert I ever went to back in 74 or 75. He was the real deal....the man in black. R.I.P.

Man,what a bummer...he was one of those musicians who wrote about real life, and sang from the heart...he will be truly missed

The last two years seem to have been horrible for music....we lost a lot of legends,,Paul Baloff,Chuck Schuldiner,Joey and Dee Dee Ramone,Joe Strummer,John Entwhistle,Walyon Jennings, and now Johnny Cash...it truly is horrible.... :erk:

RIP JOHNNY. I was a big fan of his music growing up. I still respect him as an artist. I loved his covers of Soundgarden,Beck,Danzig, and NIN.

RIP JACK TRIPPER aka John Ritter. You a funny man, and a great villian.

Johnny kicked serious ass. When I wanted KISS and my parents wanted Frank Sinatra we settle on the Man in Black. \nn/ "I see the train a comin'.." I can just hear John Bush growling this out(hint, hint). Anthrax do this guy live. "...comin' 'round the bend" Thanks Johnny.

When I saw Social Distortion a few years ago Mike Ness said Johnny Cash was the original Punk Rocker. He said its not about the music you play but how you play it, its about the attitude you have and being true to yourself about giving a big fuck you to the establishment. Well Mike Ness was right.
Hate to see ya go Johnny but glad your back with your wife.

It's a sad day, indeed!!

When June Carter died earlier this summer, I told my wife that johnny wouldn't last long. Sad to say I was right.

His legacy will be with us forever, though. His music cut across genres and across age groups like no other.

Long live the Man in Black!

i have got into country in the last couple of years and johnny is the real deal, full of class, sunday morning coming down and flat top box were showstoppers for me!

I had put up the latest Cash CD up for sale on half.com since i wasn't to fond of it (not into the cover song album thing) and I woke up in the morning and logged into hotmail and they had a headline of you know what and i had an email from half.com saying my CD sold. it was creepy. I love Johnny Cash, he had the best taste in metal. I did like One song he covered "Hurt" it was just so haunting and sad hearing him sing it. it took on a whole nother meaning. I used to have a VHS of the muppet show cast with a bunch of classic country/folk artists singing thier songs. and Johnny cash did "ghost riders in the sky" that will always be my favorite country song.
