So, a friend of mine recently asked me to help him record an album he's written. A few weeks ago, I got him round my house to record the guitar and bass tracks for one of the songs (the drums were programmed in Guitar Pro, I exported the MIDI and ran it through Superior Drummer 2). I've been tinkering with the mix for the last few weeks on and off, and am beginning to like how it sounds - just thought I'd run it past you fine people to see if you had any suggestions!

Here's an updated version of the track - the drums have been completely re-written, and some bass parts changed, and I've tinkered with the mix a fair bit too. Any feedback/advice would be much appreciated!

It's sounds like I'm listening through my telephone. The guitars are probably the biggest reason, they need more body. Go listen to your favorite songs then compare.

Yeah, I agree that they're a bit thin and harsh to begin with - do you reckon that's still an issue after the 3:33 mark?

No unfortunately not enough. I would have forgiven you if that was the case, I like that idea it would have given an creative change in dynamics.
Try to get a more full range sound, make the cymbals louder or at least sustain longer, I like using parallel compression for this. And add some low end to the bass.

Okay, cool - appreciate the feedback and advice! I've got today and tomorrow off work, so I can have a tinker and see if I can improve matters.
