Masterbating over the Ran site??

It was a somewhat of a trend here in Finland to order a custom RAN a while ago, when they were really cheap. From what I've read and heard, the guitars are excellent if they don't fuck up your order. I've heard of wrong parts, details missing etc., which I consider something that shouldn't happen with custom-made instruments. And yeah, the guitars have been taking much longer to finish than what they've promised.

No personal experience with them, though.

6 months tends to be the average wait time for a custom guitar build, which i think is reasonable

it does make for a loooong 6 months tho, about 3 months into it you almost don't think about it anymore...then around the 5th month it's all you can think about

I get that! I don't think i could take it - i'm one of those people that when i'm into to something its all i can think about.
...As it is my wife doesn't understand that even currently owning 5 guitars i still look at guitars on the web on a daily basis. chicks!!!

i got my only (so far) custom guitar from gutierrez, took about 6 months (would have been shorter, but i was indecisive over the control layout & a few other details i hadn't thought of initially) $1600 usd, and it suits me better than any guitar i've ever touched...i'm a happy customer

Yeah, Eric (Wolfeman) got one that also looks incredible, I think I'd stick with Gutierrez for a custom as well! (provided he could make one with a set-neck, don't want neck-thru for tonal reasons). Either that, or a Stinett ;)

there's a lot of good custom builders around these days, there's no reason you can't get anything killer for under $2k...unless you're wanting some fancy wood and/or binding work done, and even then anything over $3k is paying for a name IMO

Based out of Phoenix, AZ, only a few hours of a drive from where I'm at. Thanks for the recommendation! :kickass:

Do you know if he's made 7 string guitars?

Cobrahead1030 - man that is a very tasty looking axe! I think you made the right decision on the controls. Vol pot and switch is exactly as i would want them also!

yeah, see i actually wanted two volume controls, and a single tone (like the esp eclipse) but we couldn't work out where to place them so they'd be comfortable to me and look good...brent and i actually spent a few weeks going over photos he sent me of the guitar in progress, with the knobs just sitting on the guitar showing different types of placement, and i ended up just deciding to lose the other volume knob altogether; it was a bit of a PITA but at the same time it was very cool the brent decided to go over that with me

another cool detail i didn't think of til near the end of the build was the trussrod cover, he asked me if i wanted plain black plastic or something else...and i asked if he could do mahogany one stained to match the body, he thought it was a great idea so we went with that, i think it adds a really cool but subtle touch to the look

i know gutierrez and RRR have some nice looking explorers they've done, i know gutierrez won't do headstock copies but i'm pretty sure RRR does

i don't think RRR has a website or anything, i just know i've seen some killer stuff from him over on the esp board
