mastering

whoa that was weird.. anyway here was my origional post..

ok ive bounced the song im working on into wav file then imported it back into protools..ive eq'd it and compressed it a little and now im using that maxim plug in to get it as loud as possible without hitting the reds..everything is sounding good and loud, so i export it as an mp3.. its still not loud enough..how can i get the song louder with out it clipping??

You have to fix that in the mix. My guess is that you have snare and bass hits that poke way out. Limit them a little. Then try and work at it as a whole. Can you take screen caps of the wave file so we can see what you are working with?

What Limiter are you using? if you're using the protools limiter that thing was IMPOSSIBLE for me to get sounding good. It almost immediatly killed the sound with distortion and nasty pumping even when it was barely louder.

Running OSX you can use the application Grab, it's under utilities iirc

Weird, I didn't know there was a utility... I always just did Apple+shift+3.

Or there's Apple+Shift+4 and you can draw a box around the area you wish to capture... or Apple+Shift+4 then press spacebar and your cursor turns into a camera allowing you to capture a specific window.

dude... only thing i would say is get another track on the go in protools and load up a song you like the loudness/sound off and use it as a target and keep a/b-ing... that way you have a constant reminder of the "real world"

....oh and the other thing is if you cant make it loud enough it really isn't worth destroying your mix over....just take it as loud as you can with out adverse efects.... remember mastering is ment to make your records sound bettter!

Always A/B your mixes next to other peoples material. Sometimes when you think yours is good you then get deflated when you A/B it. All part of the game tho

:)

Well you quick limit on the bass should yeild a much louder final output. If you take a look at you orginal track you can see stuff poking out all over the place. This is eating up your head room. I see you tried to remedy this a little in the green pic but I am guessing there might be some more room for improvment.
