I saw them in Albany, put a whole shit load of energy into their show. Plus they're pretty tight musicians. The drum sound is incredible from them live, the bass drum sound tends really pound at you. Mastadon is much better live then on disc. I hope they release a DVD soon.

Wow. It seems like they've been getting more praise (from fellow forum members) since Blood Mountain came out.

The vocals seem a lot more shouty on this video, I like the vocals on their albums better.

They have TWO DVDs... one that came with the Remission special edition, and the Workhorse Chronicles one.

I'm proud this band has come so far, and done it without losing their integrity. I've always thought of them as sort of the next Metallica, in the sense that they came from the metal underground and got big. Hopefully they don't turn to shit though ^_^

That song seemed pretty sub-par for Mastodon. I'm not sure if it was just where they performed it.

When I saw them live, the bassist/ vocalist was on something for sure(or was drunk). He kept staggering about and stumbling. He droped his bass a few times because he couldn't put the strap back on properly and he was singing so quite you couldn't hear him at all. It was not a very good show.

It seems like they aren't well received outside of North America for whatever reason.
they have got a good response here.

i remember when i saw them the first time when remission came out, them opening for the haunted, everyone was talking about mastodon after the show and how great they were live. no one cared for the haunted, were totally owned.

they opened for Tool here in Portugal this last sunday, of course most were there to see Tool, but they got a good response and i'm sure got some new fans. they played a quiter set, maybe because they were opening for tool.
hearts alive was amazing live.

Mastodon really divides people. A love-em-or-hate-em thing, I guess.

I love 'em. And I think they are usually quite a bit better live than on disc. Even at concerts (that Mastodon's not headlining), though, a third of the crowd will be ecstatic through their performance, and two thirds will be scratching their heads....

they can't appeal to everyone. Still they are doing quite well and are praised by many and i think that's one of the reasons some "hate" them.
They are really hyped and those who don't "get it"(not in a negative way) just feel they are overrated and maybe bands they like should have the type of recognition Mastodon is having.

i'm on the love them side, and yes they are amazing live but quite good on cd too imo. i just dig the different influences they have in their sound.

They are talented. They are doing aomething no other metal band has ever done before. I'm not a real big fan of it though. I still like to listen to Mastodon once every couple of weeks. My fave song from them would be Aqua Dementia. One of the few songs I listen to a lot off the ummm Leviathan CD.

Why the fuck would you intentionally listen to music that you're not a fan of? Oh that's right, you're a moron.
