Mastodon Blood Mountain

It probably sounds like noise when the listener is not accustomed to the style of music. Like once I played a Bloodbath song for an awesome neoclassical/shred/oldschool metal guitarist at my school and he told me it was noise. Not true. Neither is what you're saying here, and I just heard one song off this thing. Sounded pretty clear & structured to me.

I am not saying that all of Remission is noise. I just don't like it. How bout that.

my favorite song by mastodon is "where strides the behemoth"

but my favorite album is the new one - Brann Dailor just goes nuts in this CD -he's top 3 best drummers I have heard so far (though I'm a noob)

I don't think you'll find many people denying that Brann is a top-notch drummer, he's one of my favourites as well.

My only complaint is that he overuses fills.

I absolutely HATED Mastodon when I saw them live. It was by far the worse act of a night that included both CoB and LoG. There music was just terrible. I don't know how they sound on CD but it was intensely bad live.

yea there are some bands that don't sound good live... one of my friends was there and said they sounded awful as well

check out their CD's though - great band that is pretty original

wow they are horrible

Just as horrible as some of those bands in your sig then, right?

Even if you don't like Mastodon I see no point in saying they suck. Mastodon is a very good band. I like them and I think "Blood Mountain" is a good album. I haven't listened to it enough times to recall anything besides the fact that I enjoyed it.

yea I think the band is very very good at what they do... every member is very solid on their instruments - the lyrics are REALLY interesting - the songwriting pretty good

I've seen them probably 6 times. I think they frickin' rule live. Especially the drums - they come across so much better live. Some nights are better than others, though.

I only just got into this band in the last couple of months, I like Leviathan heaps. I'll be checking Blood Mountain out for sure. That song in the clip sounds cool.

I don't mind the over-fills in the drumming, he pulls it off well, and it adds to his distinctive style. I bet the guitarists are also good banjo players.

I really liked Mastodon's rhythm section in Today Is The Day, though I feel they have lost their intensity and impact since becoming part of Mastodon.
However, I must concede that for mainstream metal, this band shows far more musical prowess than almost any other new band.

I heard that all the members are real cool, modest, hard-working guys

nice to see that considering all the success they have had - I would love to meet these guys

I dunno... I personally don't feel any sort of guilt about downloading metal albums... no point in spending money when you don't have to
