I was thinking it and you said it perfectly. Trilobite, Motherpuncher, March of the Fire Ants, Where Strides the Behemoth, etc etc - the whole album is great, from start to finish. I think Mastodon pretty much reached their apex with Remission.
...and I agree with the Josh Homme/genius connection.
Edit - By the way, has anyone heard their cover of 'Orion'? It's excellent. Though there are certain points where the lead guitars are a bit rough, it's near flawless.
