MATT BARLOW REJOINED ICED EARTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great news for me that Barlow is back! No offence to anybody who really likes Tim Owens but listening to him sing for Iced Earth is agonising. Horror Show and SWTWC were my first Iced Earth albums (i bought them a day apart but I can't remember which I bought first) and Matt's power and emotion was incredible. It's safe to say that I was not a fan at all of TGB and SWP1 was ok but again Tim's vocals just grate against my nerves.

I'm looking forward to hearing Matt sing on part2 and I know it would be offensive to Tim but I really hope John considers rerecording part 1 with Matt on vocals. Im also very curious to hear the new Pyramaze material with Matt on vocals. I like Tim best when he is singing to his own music, the Beyond Fear album is not bad at all, I hope he gives up this whole hired-gun thing because I just don't think he's capable of filling he shoes of other great and iconic metal singers.

Ok after jizzing out 3 soup cans I finally regained my composure enough to type...

I also remember Jon's post about how he thought Tim was the voice he wanted for Iced Earth, but I guess after hearing Tim sing on the two last albums, he decided Matt was the other half of Iced Earth (about 70% or so :D), and that they could do it well with Ripper, but far better with Matt.

I'd like to hear Matt's statement on this where he mentions Jon was drunk and wrote this false statement to get back at the fans for jumping up his ass about Ripper being the singer since Burden. Anyways if this is true, I'd still like to see Matt's words on the matter and why he decided to go back to Iced Earth despite what he said about the touring and such and stuffs.

May Iced Earth continue their reign where they left off!!

I've heard worse, though I tried forcing myself to like "Legend of the Bone Carver" and just gave up. I give it a spin for 15 mins or so once a month however.

Edit: He's still sticking with Pyramaze (for the time being?)

yeah, bone carver is ...ok....i guess. it's not interesting. except one or two songs. i love souls in pain, but the rest of the album is boring. but i sure do want to hear barlow singing souls in pain.

:bah:

 man, more power to you. i think barlow is among the best at what he does, but not everyone'll agree with that one eh?

its just that with being a classically trained vocalist, i've also been trained to identify technical problems with singers. There is more than one way to heathfully produce the voice, but some things are universal. But his issues arn't really handicaps though; since he knows his voice so well, they actually become more characteristic really. suits the band for sure.

Other bands for Ripper to join until one of their old lead singers returns:

-Anthrax
-Journey
-Queen

...oops

ROFL!

Tim Owens is so unlucky with joining bands only for their original singers to come back and take back their place. He is so unlucky I can't help thinking that if he joined Queen Freddy would revive from the dead to take back his place. :p

Owens fits perfectly on Framing Armageddon..And the music is Jon's best since Dark Saga.

Absolutely...FA is epic. Ripper vocals injected some much needed intensity & power into a band that had become stale as hell. Even Jon said Tim was the voice for the band...now he says Matt is the voice. His credibility is shot all to hell at this point.

Man, you don't post often round here but when you do its just to say something negative or to critisize something/someone.
I know what I'm doing, don't quote me and tell me what I'm doing.

This is what Jon Shaffer posted to everyone on his MySpace friends list...

It will be sometime before I’m going to be doing press due to the holidays and the fact that I’m still deep in the final writing process of Part 2. I’m aware that the news of Matt coming back into to the band has taken many people by surprise so I’ll try to explain the situation a little better. I do love Tim’s voice and it is the kind of voice I hear when I write, and he’s really cool person. And I do not want an unnecessary war of words started because certain journalists like to create controversy to sell their magazines. I love Tim as a person and a musician, and I do not have negative feelings towards him at all. We would all appreciate it if the trash peddlers would respect the situation and keep their venomous speculations to themselves. An unlikely request I’m sure, but it would be nice

On the other side, Matt and I are brothers and there was a very deep and spiritual connection that came through in the music that we created and performed together over the years. Iced Earth has always been about passion and honesty in the music, I’m talking about real, raw emotion. That’s what has always made the relationship between the band and the fans a very special thing and it is the thing that made the chemistry that Matt and I had together so special. When we split before, our relationship had suffered from various things, but mostly it came down to not communicating like we should have, which led to things being blown out of proportion. This, coupled with the uncertainty of earning a secure living in the music business, resulted in Matt coming to the decision that he did. I convinced him to stay in the band, which he did, but it was clear that while tracking TGB, he was already mentally finished with music and was moving on to different things and to a more secure future. All of that is behind us and we have grown and matured and will have an even more fulfilling relationship because of what we’ve experienced and learned from the past.

Iced Earth activities will be more limited now because Matt will still be carrying on his career as a law enforcement officer. I would rather we do it this way and have the shows that happen be very special events than to carry on and feel like what’s happening isn’t genuine. This is NOT a cut on Tim. It’s just that Iced Earth really began to blossom after Matt joined the band and for years we worked our asses off together towards a common goal, on stage and off. Those years of work and commitment defined what Iced Earth truly is, and frankly I would rather end it than to carry on without Matt involved. All of this has been coming to a head for a while, and the talks with the fans in Europe helped cement what I already knew needed to happen. It’s one thing to be pressured by our business partners for change, it’s something else entirely when the fan base is overwhelmingly telling me the same thing. This decision is by the fans/for the fans. I wish only the best for Tim, this is not a standard bullshit statement, it’s the truth. A guy with so much talent deserves the best in life and that’s what I wish for him completely.
