i want to buy on of this toys - i saw them in action - they sound great - but i got an question - which is better?

Has been covered a number of times, recap:

Ibanez Owns Maxon.

All the 'true' 808s have the same circuit, and all the 9s (and many other circuits like the new TS7s) have the same circuit, and the two are a pair of resistors apart so if you can handle a soldering iron without your hand melting onto the workbench you can use either one. The 'mojo' is supposedly the RC4558 op-amp and gajillions of things have those floating around, so don't get caught up if you see the One TubeScreamer To Rule Them All - half the time you'll see people putting in better ICs anyway. Don't waste your money just for the sake of wasting money - try them out and don't avoid the little guys because they're cheaper.

I really wish there were some sticky threads about the most common things that get brought up repeatedly every day...such as the Maxon/Ibby/etc. stuff, mics, sneap c4, sneap gogs, mic'ing pics...

Sorry if I seem grumpy, I just woke up. Ignore me.

It seems to me through listening to those samples a few times since they were posted up and some personal recording experiance that the main point is to have the TS there to smoothen things out, before they hit the mic, as opose to one being 1000X better than the other. I mean, like DSS3 said, in the mix, the difference wont exactly be noticable between the variants.

this is probably quite true, once all is said and done...from a playing perspective tho, they all give the guitar slightly different vibe and feel; i feel that the maxon really brings the dynamics of the guitar out in all the right ways for me as a player, but it's entirely possible for another player to think the ibanez feels better

wow...i just looked and the ibanez ts808 is going for $175!!! i paid around $130 for my maxon

Would be interesting if someone actually could compare the Maxon and the Ibanez to the $35 Behringer. I mean, even the expensive ones have a very simple circuit with cheap standard components, and I don't doubt that it is possible to build a cheap copy that sounds just as good.

edit: I just read that the Behringer indeed does have the 4558 opamp and the MA150 clipping diodes, just as the original(s).

listened all of this little bastards so my opinion in comparison:
1) TS9 - Sounds a little bit more thiny and not so warm
2) TS808 - Warm and really wide sound
3) OD808 - More crunchy, clear and warm sound

the main thing of od808 is that its warm and not too much wide, like ts808 - i mean more crunchy

so im there where from i was started - Maxon 808 or Ibanez 808...

note - i want to use it with overdriven amp or dist pedal

Not really, if you pay really close attention the differences are there. I guess it comes from me listening to things for a living the past 5 years or so...but still. Then again, as Jeff said already once it's in a mix the differences are so minute it's not worth arguing about at that point. However cobrahead brought up a good point about the differences mattering to the player as far as feeling goes.
