maxon od808 tone control

Just got one in the post today, there isnt a drastic difference between 0 and 10 on the tone control, that normal ? Just gives subtle highs at 10.

It's a subtle effect, any way you slice it. The nuances will become more apparent over time. But it rules!

oh ok, guess i've never really fucked about with the settings on my ts-9 i just set it up like andy has said and never really moved it from there.

may be because you're using it with a valvestate amp, but i think it should change the tone more than that.

Maybe the maxon tone control is different to the ts9 ? :S getting worried now. Anyone with a od808 that knows for sure if this sounds right ?

anyway, I own one with a 5150 in tow.
The tone control is pretty subtle, but it makes a difference. The far clockwise position will give you a brighter top end and anticlockwise seems to muffle. You tried it totally clean (ie, no amp distortion)? You should notice it a little more then. I think it also depends how high the drive is up.

Well sure benny, but all im wondering is, is if this pedal is functioning correctly. If the tone sound is similiar to yours then i dont have to worry i guess.

The difference is there. Nothing wierd. It's "subtle" (not to my ears) because it's in front of the amp drive. If you listen to your overdrive alone (in the clean channel) the difference will be much more audible, but that's not the point. Your maxon is fine.

sounds about right to me then.
no 'drastic' changes, simply a bit more tonal choice for you. It's a great box, but it's not a 31 band eq

I use the Maxon od808 in front of a 5150 and I too can verify that in this situation, the difference between 0 and 10 on the tone knob is incredibly subtle. The biggest thing that the tone knob changes for me, is when I try to let a chug ring for more than a second, the chug quickly turns to feedback when the tone knob is set to 10. In between 0 and 10, the feedback thing is reduced a bit but running it on 0 eliminates that feedback altogether...so I've always ran it on 0 and been completely happy with the sound.

It's not really that different from this but I definitly wouldn't call it subtle. Noticeable difference between 11oclock and 1oclock. Defintly affects the sound alot.
