MEGADETH Announce Final Album And Global Farewell Tour; Dave Mustaine’s New Memoir Coming In 2026

"... Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine revealed in a social post directly shared with his worldwide fanbase and Cyber Army that his forthcoming album (due out early next year) will be the final Megadeth studio album of his career. Mustaine shared the announcement via his alter ego Vic Rattlehead (video below). Mustaine also revealed that the multi-platinum superstar band will embark on a global farewell tour kicking off in 2026. Also set for next year is a new memoir from Mustaine, details of which will be revealed in the coming months.

Dave Mustaine says:
There’s so many musicians that have come to the end of their career, whether accidental or intentional. Most of them don’t get to go out on their own terms on top, and that’s where I’m at in my life right now. I have traveled the world and have made millions upon millions of fans and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them. We can’t wait for you to hear this album and see us on tour. If there was ever a perfect time for us to put out a new album, it’s now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it’s now. This is also a perfect time for us to tell you that it’s our last studio album. We’ve made a lot of friends over the years and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour. Don’t be mad, don’t be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years. We have done something together that’s truly wonderful and will probably never happen again. We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it’s played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.

Megadeth are set to release their forthcoming album via Mustaine’s Tradecraft imprint in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s new BLKIIBLK label. It will launch with the project’s first single (TBA) in tandem with global pre-orders this fall. Other sites are confirming Jan 23 release date today too.

I kind of hope Jnr's not part of the farewell tour. The guy has turned into a PITA lately, he gets his nose in everything, even stuff that doesn't concern him. Then one week he's going on about how much he deserves to be at the farewell, and the week after he's saying negative crap about Mustaine. I know the list of people saying negative stuff against Dave is pretty long, and maybe even deserved but Jnr seems to be fence sitting and jumps down the Megadeth side when he thinks Dave is listening, but jumps down the on the other side when some else says something Anti-Dave. Actually that sounds a lot like Dave. Maybe Dave taught Jnr more than he's willing to admit.

Every good thing must come to an end, I suppose. Although I've never much been into Megadeth, I have fond memories of a childhood friend who introduced me to their early output (80's), so that's cool, I guess. These days it's more or less evolved into a soap opera with fired members to the left and right and whatnot. And I agree with the above poster that Ellefson isn't exactly doing much for his legacy judging by his recent actions (not to mention the time he played with his gear on cam).

If Mustaine can stomach being on the same stage as the Metallica guys for the "Big 4" shows, he certainly should be able to allow Ellefson back on stage for at least an appearance somewhere along the line of the farewell tour, maybe at one or a few of the big festivals.

Did Ellefson screw up? Hell yes. Enough to be fired? Well, that's up to "the boss" and that's that. Has Ellefson publicly apologized for his behavior and admitted guilt? I'd have to go back and review. I would think the "religious" side of Dave would accept that if it happened, but .... it's Dave so I wouldn't hold my breath.

I have no skin in the game, but this whole "back and forth" thing they've got going on is weird, to say the least.

That's the thing, it's obvious that they couldn't live without each other the first time they split in the 00's and they still can't live without each other now, so either bury the hatchet or make it a clean break. Dave does seem a little less involved in the game this time, and Jnr seems a bit more controlled by the people he's around. He's always more vocal about Megadeth around the same time Kings of Thrash and Poland are in the news.

He apologised to his wife and family, but I don't think he owed the world, or even Dave an apology. He might have wronged his wife and broken marriage vows, which is not a great look for a pastor, but that was the only guilt he had to admit. Both Dave's have admitted that there was more to the sacking than the online video.

I want to listen to it, but at the same time I don't want to hear anything until the album comes out.

People are talking about it quite a bit and it actually seems to be winning people over which is really unusual for anything Megadeth, anything new really. When the first reaction from these people is usually to hate something yet this time they are praising it and only hating on Dave, the world just doesn't seem right and I wonder if the single might be too good!
