I'm enjoying it quite a lot. More aligned to the band's middle era I dig - Youthanasia, The World Needs a Hero, and Countdown (my fav of theirs). I'd perhaps rank the new album just above The System Has Failed (the last one I cared for). I liked 'The Scorpion', but that album has a bit of lamer rock as well. The new one is more consistently energetic.
So yeah, best Megadeth album since The World Needs a Hero for me. Now I'm revisiting the 6 albums in a row I disliked to see if my opinion's changed at all. I don't think it has though. It's hard to explain, but I'm listening to Endgame and I just don't like the production for one thing. Dunno if it's the EQ or what, but it tempts my brain to tune out and leave it as a sort of rumbling background/elevator music. Whereas the new album seems to have the vocals & leads there and crisp and not dampened by the lower frequencies, actually sounding like a favourite band I want to pay attention to again. Weird!
I was hoping to hear Dave use more of his trademark sneer on the RTL cover - that would've made that worthwhile for me.
