Melodic Death/Doom w/ female vocals

thanks i agree with you on the snare. I think the cymbals are pumping. Does it sound like that to you guys?

Thanks a lot man! Schecter Hellraiser through an Engl Powerball with impulses. I don't know how to mic properly :l

Hey man, sounds good, I really like the strings - the guitars have nice fullness in the mids, but are kinda thin, and a bit nasal and grainy, which is what I expected from the PB. Still, it works pretty well here (also, they could use some more gain when the palm muted fast riff kicks in). I like the snare, good amount of verb on it, and a nice crack, though a bit much air/snap IMO (if you've got a bottom mic going on, maybe lower that, or if you're boosting in the air region, well, don't as much ;)). The kick is a bit poofy and with not enough attack - judging by the sound, I'm guessing it's natural and has just been eq'ed a lot, and I gotta say, there's few things that irk me as much as a heavily eq'ed kick (not saying this sounds overly heavily eq'ed, but rather it sounds like it needs more, which would make it that), so I'd suggest just scouring these here forumses for a good sample. Toms are too low as well. And are the growling vox by your chick singer as well? If so, I'm impressed (and terrified)! They're a bit low though, and seem a bit dry as far as verb/delay goes, and maybe a bit thin as well; what mic did you use?

thanks a lot Marcus those tips are golden :D

You kind of lost me on the kick tips though. Its not natural its all DFHS and actually the kick has not much eq except subtractive. Are you saying i should use a different kick drum sample? I'd like to get slate drums 3.0. Are those better than superior 1 and 2?

The growling was done by me the guitarist. Sorry i should have said that, it does on our myspace. I only have a sm57 for all vocals. I am still new to recording. Should i add more low mids or lows to make the vocals sound less thin?

I really do appreciate the tips and I will be trying them all out to learn from them even though I wont be mixing our album. I may though one day if i get to the point where i think its good enough to sell.

I will post the final mix done by the professional when he sends it. I wont tell you all who it is yet but I'm sure you have heard of them.
