It's been a while since Mercenary has been mentioned in this forum.

I just checked their website and found a few interesting things, not sure if you folks are aware of the changes since the three members left last year...

Rene (bassist) has now taken over all vocal duties, and according to the band, he's more than capable of doing so. I am trying to find a clip of their first gig with this new lineup, but no dice. However, the band also showed their comedy side by recording a short and funny version of the song Firesoul in a "jazz" version. Video is below.

New album tentatively scheduled for later this year.

I have a feeling the new Mercenary will not be good (and not because of this video, obviously this is just a fun thing). I don't know why, i'm just not expecting much at all.

Their releases have progressively gotten worse since Kral left after 11 Dreams. Such a shame, 11 Dreams is one of my favorite albums ever.

Well, I'm a big Mercenary fan and while I loved 11 Dreams, I feel The Hours That Remain was far and away their best. I liked Architect of Lies, but it lacked inspiration. Now I'm nervous about such a huge change, but I'm hoping the new lineup has greater inspiration and the skills to pull it off. Just gotta wait and see.

I mostly agree. I don't know why 11 dreams gets so much love. I like it, but it wasn't OMG THE GREATEST CD EVAR. Hours was amazing, but AoL.. you could tell something was wrong.

I'm excited for the new album, honestly.

I like Mercenary will be interested in seeing what they come up with. Since i have discovered the band "Solution 45" Mercenary has took a back seat.

I am looking forward to hear the new disc as well. I don't think the band can top the previous work, especially as far as the vocals. However, if they say Rene can do it, I'll give him the chance.

The Hours That Remain is definitely one of my favorite albums, 11 Dreams is great as well. Architect of Lies, however, I thought was a little bit of a disappointment but not a bad disc, really.

We'll see what happens...

I don;t hate this band, but the members of this band that I thought MADE this band are no longer in it...hence my interest gone.

I think a worthwhile comparison is how Arjen left Stream of Passion.

The interest just went to non-existant once that was announced.

I'm in the camp that thinks Mercenary hit their peak with Kral, and then have just been falling after 11 Dreams. Hour that Remains was good - Architect...don't know why - just felt empty and non-memorable.

Plus their last ProgPower performance did absolutely nothing for me (I saw them at both ProgPower's and really enjoyed them the first time).

I'm not going to hate the new Mercenary without listening, but to say I really care anymore would be an understatement. Seems like with that much of the key elements gone, just using the name...

Does anyone know what Kral does anymore?? Did he go to new band or just quit music altogether?

Now, I am assuming you mean that on a personal level, correct? Because, for instance, while I understand that Arjen was a big draw when it came to Stream of Passion, their second album was just as good if not better than the first in my opinion.

Obviously on a personal level...

I haven't checked it out. It might be better then the 1st - but I had no interest in it once he left. My loss obviously, but my time is limited and just haven't got around to it.

That was my point.

Mercenary could be about to release their best album ever, but my interest is slim for it.

I guess the point is using the name means nothing to me. The musicians have to prove they have what it takes. Stratovarius was same way - I was extremely questionable about new album but was pleasantly surprised.

I think he had quit music all together, because he was trying to raise a family, and it just wasn't meshing with trying to be in a band as well. Wether or not that stuck, I don't know. He probably does a little here and there, I have no idea, at this point, but he hasn't been around the Mercenary forums since he left. Almost positive he's not in anything major.
