MERCENARY: Entire New Album Available For Streaming

Interesting. Few songs in, it sounds ok, but is kind of missing what I liked most about them. Not quite as epic IMO.

Do you mean it's missing Mikkel?

I didn't even realize that René Pedersen took over the singing responsibilities until listening and thinking "wtf?! why does this sound different?"
I really think Mikkel made Mercenary special. Now it's just "meh". :Smug:

Edit: just realized Morten (keyboards) is gone too! Seriously... what. the. fuck!

Being a huge fan of this band, I was worried with the Mikkel leaving but I think Rene does a pretty good job in his absence (not the same of course). Mix is stellar. The depth and atmosphere that Jacob Hanson achieves is so massive.

I'm sorry to say that this isn't my cup of tea. I wasn't a fan of their previous album either, but they've said officially that Architect Of Lies wasn't as good as it could be, because the band didn't agree on their creative path. After a listen and a half this one sounds more energetic, but what once drew me to Mercenary(11 Dreams and The Hours That Remain are masterpieces) doesn't seem to be there anymore. I'll give this a few more spins, and I'm probably going to pick it up. But they aren't the super progressive Mercenary with 8 minute long songs and awesome, progressive arrangements that I was hoping for.

Oh god the mix is horrendous. I couldn't make a mix that wooly (stuffed up yet lacking beef) and that fucking dark even if I killed a bottle of Jager and tried to mix a band I never heard before. No atmosphere, no depth and clarity like the told mercenary and Rene's vocals do nothing for me, I don't feel the emotion in his cleans like Mikkel. Actually that maybe an unfair assumption considering the mix might be ruining a pretty badass vocal performance, I still can't get over how bad it sounds.

This is probably a 96k mp3 or something like that. I do think that Architect Of Lies was a real step down in production quality from The Hours That Remain, which is one of my favourite Hansen productions.
